Volvo's Mean Green hybrid truck to attempt new world record

(March 24, 2012) "Mean Green," the world’s fastest hybrid truck, will attempt to reach speeds in excess of 165 mph on April 27 at Wendover Airfield in Utah to try and beat its own world speed records set only last year by ‘Mean Green’s driver Boije Ovebrink.

The Volvo-built hybrid currently holds speed records in the standing 500 meter, standing kilometer and flying kilometer — international speed standards.

Fiat 500 Abarth one of least depreciating cars in UK

(March 23, 2012) — With the Fiat 500 Abarth now reaching dealer showrooms in the U.S., it is interesting to learn it has been found to be one of the least depreciating cars in the UK.

The findings, by valuation specialists CAP, and published in this week’s (March 21) Auto Express, put the pocket rocket in third place behind the Audi Q5 and Skoda Yeti, with an average resale value of 60 per cent of its list price, based on three years or 30,000 miles use.

Ford begins work on $1 billion manufacturing facility in India

(March 23, 2012) SANAND, India — Ford India is laying the foundation for its new $1 billion state-of-the-art, integrated manufacturing facility in Sanand and its future growth on the subcontinent. At a ceremony Thursday, Ford India laid the foundation stone at the paint shop area of its new manufacturing facility.
 
When complete in 2014, the integrated manufacturing facility will have the capacity to produce an additional 240,000 new Ford vehicles and 270,000 engines per year for Indian customers and for export markets.

Volkswagen to add 800 jobs to Tennessee plant to build Passat

(March 23, 2012) CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. —Amid rising sales of the redesigned Passat, Volkswagen says it will add 800 jobs at its Tennessee plant to boost production of the mid-sized sedan.

The move will increase the factory's workforce to 3,500 by year end and push the automaker closer to its new goal of building more than 170,000 Passats annually in Chattanooga by 2013.

Scion announces starting price of $24,200 for FR-S sports car

(March 22, 2012) TORRANCE, Calif. — Scion today announced pricing for its 2013 FR-S compact rear-wheel drive sports car.  The FR-S starts with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $24,200 when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, and $25,300 when equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission that features paddle shifters and rev-match technology.

Volkswagen begins U.S. electric Golf pilot program

(March 22, 2012) HERNDON, Va. — Volkswagen announced this week that it will begin a pilot scheme to test 20 prototype E-Golf Battery Electric Vehicles over a nine-month period in select locations in the U.S. Twelve of these vehicles will be allocated to selected Volkswagen employees during the time period.
