(October 15, 2012) DETROIT — General Motors is opening an Information Technology Innovation Center in Warren, Mich., and expects to hire up to 1,500 high-tech employees over the next several years to support the company’s new approach to IT services.

The GM Michigan Innovation Center is the second of four planned Innovation Centers in the United States. GM last month announced the opening of the first facility in Austin, Texas, where 500 new IT jobs will be created.

(October 15, 2012) TOKYO — Honda announced that cumulative worldwide sales of its hybrid vehicles surpassed one million units as of the end of September 2012. This milestone was reached 12 years and 11 months after the start of sales of the first generation Honda Insight in Japan on November 1999, then rated as the world's most fuel efficient vehicle among all mass-production gasoline-powered vehicles.

(October 14, 2012) POLAND — Last week the ten millionth vehicle produced in the 41-year history of the two Fiat industrial sites in Poland, the former FSM (Fabryka Samochodów Małolitrażowych) factory in Bielsko-Biała (1971) and the Fiat Auto Poland factory in Tychy (1975), came off the assembly lines.

The vehicle, a Fiat 500C Lounge painted Corsa Red and fitted with a 1.2 gas engine, is earmarked for the German market.

(October 13, 2012) ARK RIDGE, N.J. — Hertz today announced that its U.S. car rental fleet does not include any of the Toyota vehicles subject to the recently announced safety recall related to power-window switches. 

The company said its corporate rental fleet vehicles are currently from the 2011, 2012, and 2013 model years. All of the recalled vehicles are from model years prior to 2010.
