Ford and luxury goods company Shinola celebrate 50 years of Mustang

(April 29, 2013) DETROIT — Ford is teaming up with Shinola, a Detroit-based luxury goods manufacturer, to celebrate 50 years of the Ford Mustang with the release of a premium 46-millimeter wristwatch with Swiss movements.
 
Only 50 companies will be licensed to create products bearing the Mustang 50 Years logo, which was designed to celebrate the sports car leading up to its 50th birthday on April 17, 2014. Shinola is one of the first manufacturers to help mark this milestone.

Nissan Leaf brings electric cars to SimCity

(April 28, 2013) NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nissan, in collaboration with Electronic Arts, is integrating the Nissan Leaf into the most recent edition of the popular city-building strategy game, SimCity. Players are able to create EV-friendly cities by driving Nissan Leaf all-electric vehicles and installing up to five Nissan-branded charging stations throughout their cities free of charge.

Chrysler to invest nearly $20 Million in Toledo Machining Plant

(April 27, 2013) AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Chrysler Group announced this week that it will invest $19.6 million in its Toledo Machining Plant in Perrysburg, Ohio, to increase capacity of the torque converter it's machining for the nine-speed transmission. With this announcement, the company's total investments in its U.S. operations since June 2009 increase to over $5.2 billion.

2014 Corvette Stingray to start at $51,995

(April 27, 2013) DETROIT — The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe will have a suggested starting retail price of $51,995, and the Corvette Stingray Convertible will start at $56,995. Both prices include a $995 destination fee, $1,400 more than the outgoing Corvette.

Honda reports increase in quarterly profit

(April 26, 2013) Honda reported today a 6.6 percent rise in quarterly net profit, helped by the yen's rapid depreciation and strong sales of its Accord and CR-V models the United States. In the quarter ended March 31, Honda recorded a net profit of 75.7 billion yen ($760.88 million), compared with 71.5 billion yen in the same period last year.

Ford, Schaeffler test car powered by electric motors in rear wheels

(April 26, 2013) LOMMEL, Belgium — Ford Motor Company and Schaeffler today demonstrated the Fiesta-based eWheelDrive car, a drivable research vehicle that could lead to improvements in urban mobility and parking by making possible smaller, more agile cars.

Powered by independent electric motors in each of the rear wheels, eWheelDrive technology offers space under the hood that in conventional cars is occupied by the engine and transmission, and in electric cars by a central motor.
