Audi says new A3 sedan designed for U.S., China customers

(July 10, 2013) American and Chinese consumers are the main targets for the sedan version of the Audi A3 that already is being sold in Europe and is due to hit showrooms globally over the next several months. But Audi executives believe they also can win over a considerable number of European luxury-car buyers who more naturally favor hatchbacks like the current sportback version of A3 sold in Europe.

Bentley reports successful first half of 2013

(July 10, 2013) Bentley Motors continued its successful performance in the first half of 2013 with global deliveries to customers growing by 9% with 4,279 cars sold against the first six months of 2012 when 3,929 cars were sold. Growth in Bentley's largest market, the U.S., was key, as was a strong showing in Europe.

Jaguar Project 7 concept to make debut at Goodwood Festival

(July 10, 2013) LONDON — The Jaguar Project 7 concept will make a dynamic debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12. The concept vehicle is based on the 2014 Jaguar F-TYPE, an all-new, two-seat convertible sports car and winner of the 2013 "World Car Design of the Year" award.

"Project 7 is a single-seat sports car based on the F-TYPE, with the kind of racing-inspired form that designers dream about. It has one purpose: to be driven fast and enjoyed. Jaguar sports cars are known for exceptional performance and clean design. Project 7 captures that spirit in its purest form," said Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar.

BMW reports best six-month sales in history

(July 8, 2013) MUNICH, Germany — BMW Group achieved its highest sales for the first six months ever, with 954,521 vehicles delivered worldwide, an increase of 6% over the same period last year when 900,566 were sold. Sales in June also reached an all-time high with 184,489 vehicles sold worldwide, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year.

GM's Lordstown complex goes all LED

(July 8, 2013) LORDSTOWN, Ohio — General Motors Lordstown assembly and stamping complex, where the Chevrolet Cruze is built, is switching to LED lighting with a built-in, fully integrated wireless control system, GM’s largest such conversion in North America.

The project goal was to replace the existing 40-foot high bay lighting system in the stamping plant with one that provided the same brightness and illumination yet costs less money, consumes less energy and requires less maintenance.
