(March 12, 2023) Kia struck gold in 2020 with the Telluride, a new three-row mid-sized crossover SUV. It has wowed customers for three years, and for 2023 the Telluride has undergone a mid-cycle refreshening that includes updated exterior styling and interior upgrades that include a twin gauge cluster and an infotainment screen that together provide nearly 25 inches of continuous screen across the dashboard.

Infiniti QX50 — Providing a sense of luxury

(March 5, 2023) When Infiniti debuted its current entry-level compact QX50 sport utility crossover in 2019 we heaped it with a fair amount of praise. The current generation QX50 is now in its fifth year with only minor modifications and design tweaks here and there and we still find a lot to like. But in the intervening five years a host of competitors have brought fresher and more appealing vehicles to the segment, which makes the QX50 a tougher buying decision.

Hyundai Kona N — Driving thrills in a small crossover

(February 26, 2023) Hyundai's Kona N is the "Ultimate Driving Machine" for the those of us on a budget. It's wildly fun to drive never mind that its a subcompact crossover SUV and a member of a rather large family that offers four ways to travel. In addition to the N, the Kona klan consists of the standard model that is motivated by a 147 horsepower four-cylinder engine paired to a continuously variable transmission, a turbocharged N-Line model that elevates horsepower to 195 ponies, and an all-electric.

(February 19, 2023) While the nation's automobile manufacturers are feverishly designing and building electric trucks to meet the "green" demand that seems to be sweeping the country, they continue to sell in great numbers trucks with brutish V-8 engines endowed with gobs of horsepower and torque and with incredible off-road capabilities. And despite the perceived desirability of everything without a gas tank, people still love their outlandishly capable trucks.

(February 12, 2023) Kia arrived in the United States in 1992 with the Sportage compact SUV, well ahead of the current crossover popularity. The other initial entry was an inexpensive compact sedan called the Sephia. The Sportage, which quickly gained fans in the soon-to-be small SUV segment, was a collaboration of Kia, Ford and Mazda — Ford having a stake in the company and Mazda providing the powertrain.

(February 5, 2023) It’s a ruby red chunk of a truck, a near-luxury 3-row SUV — real SUV, not crossover — that has three rows of seats and can tow up to 8,100 pounds of trailer. Yet it’s as quiet as can be on a long trip to dinner with five on board. Borrowing the Silverado’s bold face for 2021 saw a respectable 106,000 sold, over the last-generation 2020’s 88,000 and close to its almost record-breaking halcyon days in 2018 and 2019. And on a rainy weekend’s travel between two states and three different events, it did its job as a truck, bus and commuter.

(January 29, 2023) Some 50 years after Don McLean penned American Pie, King Cadillac is looking up while the jester, Elon Musk, is looking down and — I’m guessing here — looking ahead. Of course, Cadillac and its GM siblings are planning to catch Tesla in a way only $illon-dollar multinationals can; Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC and Buick will be introducing a catalog of EVs, beginning in 2023.

(January 22, 2023) In the 1990s, just say “BMW,” and car geeks would probably think of the light, tight 328i with its 190-hp inline six-cylinder engine, neat 6-speed manual, rear wheel drive and decent room for four, all in a compact 176-inch-long shape. These days, the light, tight BMW many may think about may not be a sedan labeled 3-Series.

Kia Niro SX Touring —Soul searching

(January 15, 2023) In a few of the enthusiast pubs — notably, the Brit mags — there’s the regular reference to what their editorial staffs buy and drive. And those wheels just keep on spinning, with an ongoing hubbub of collectible this and track day that; you wonder how-in-the-King’s name they have the time, even if they can find the money, to acquire so many machines.

Dodge Charger Widebody — Say farewell to the iconic Charger

(January 10, 2023) When Dodge first launched the Charger back in 1966 it was a fastback version of the midsize Coronet as a four-seat two-door receiving a tepid reception with sales not what Dodge expected. The second-generation Charger with more aggressive styling with its recessed grille and flying buttress roofline and recessed rear window captured the buying public’s attention with sales nearly 100,000 units. It also greeted the arrival of the now famous Charger Daytona with its massive rear wing and aerodynamic front nose cone and qualifying NASCAR credentials.
