NADA says improving economy will boost auto sales in 2014

(January 28, 2014) NEW ORLEANS — Increasing home values, residential housing construction and rising employment are key factors that will drive the U.S. economy this year, says Steven Szakaly, chief economist of the National Automobile Dealers Association.

"These factors are also critical to maintaining the pace of auto sales growth, which has been an integral part of the economic recovery," said Szakaly at the 2014 NADA Convention & Expo, which concluded in New Orleans on Monday.

NADA Used Car Guide: Used vehicle prices to slip in 2014

(January 27, 2014) NEW ORLEANS — A sharp rise in the supply of late-model used cars and light trucks  is expected to end a five-year run of price growth, according to the NADA Used Car Guide.

Late-model used vehicle supply will be more plentiful in large part due to an 18% surge in off-lease volume. The supply of units six to eight years in age, however, will continue to fall as a byproduct of the new vehicle sales decline from 2006 to 2009.

New-car sales to improve nearly 2 percent in January, Kelley projects

(January 24, 2014) IRVINE, Calif. — New-vehicle sales are expected to improve 1.6 percent year-over-year in January to a total of 1.06 million units, and an estimated 15.9 million seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR), according to Kelley Blue Book www.kbb. 

At 15.9 million, this would be the highest recorded January SAAR since 2007, when it was 16.4 million.
