AAA warns of New Year's dangers; backs ignition interlock efforts

(December 26, 2012) WASHINGTON — As Americans prepare for holiday celebrations, AAA reminds drivers and passengers alike of the dangers on the roads this New Year's Day, which consistently ranks as the year's deadliest day for alcohol-related fatalities.

To strengthen efforts to protect the public against drunk drivers and reduce alcohol-related traffic deaths, AAA is announcing its support of ignition interlocks for all convicted DUI offenders, and offers important safety advice to partygoers.

Edmunds.com forecasts 1.36 million new car sales in December

(December 21, 2012) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Edmunds.com forecasts that 1,361,899 new cars and trucks will be sold in the U.S. in December for an estimated Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR) this month of 15.4 million light vehicles. This would bring total 2012 sales to 14.5 million light vehicles, which would be a 13.5 percent increase over 2011, and the highest annual total since 2007.

Auto loans increase 11 percent in first nine months of 2012

(December 20, 2012) ATLANTA — According to Equifax's latest National Consumer Credit Trends Report, consumer credit originated year-to-date through September 2012 has increased nearly 30% to $675 billion from $523 billion during the same time frame in 2010.

Comparatively, credit originations today are below the 2006-2007 pre-recession levels of about $1 trillion by about one-third.
