(March 4, 2023) It might be hard to imagine, given the current, cutthroat state of the pickup truck segment, but there was once a time when these task-focused haulers were largely an afterthought to the bean counters in Detroit. Fifty years ago, before King Ranches and Longhorns lined their interiors with enough leather to reach from Lansing to Laredo, trucks were barebones affairs built to get the job done and sold to customers who honestly weren’t expected to use them as daily drivers.

A retired 1950s Cadillac



This early 1950s Cadillac was found in retirement in a car graveyard in Arizona. In the decade of the '50s, Cadillac introduced numerous styling trends as well as new technology.  In 1953, for instance, the "Autronic Eye" was introduced. This feature would automatically dim high-beam headlamps for the safety of oncoming motorists.

Ford to restart F-150 Lightning production



(March 3, 2033) Ford said Thursday it will restart production of its F-150 Lightning on March 13 after it halted output of the electric truck after a battery fire in early February. Ford has not set a date for resuming deliveries. The U.S. automaker said as it "ramps up production, we will continue holding already-produced vehicles while we work through engineering and parts updates." This according to Automotive News.

Ford establishes Latitude AI to develop future automated driving technology



(March 3, 2023) PITTSBURGH — Ford has established Latitude AI, a wholly owned subsidiary focused on developing a hands-free, eyes-off-the-road automated driving system for millions of vehicles. With the formation of Latitude, Ford adds a leading team of machine learning, robotics, software, sensors, systems engineering and operations talent as the automaker grows and expands its development efforts in automated driving technology — including advancements in Ford BlueCruise, which already has accumulated more than 50 million miles of hands-free driving.

Ford big winner in U.S. Postal Service EV contract awards



(March 2, 2023) WASHINGTON — The United States Postal Service awarded contracts today for 9,250 commercially available left-hand drive (LHD) battery electric vehicles (BEVs) as well as initial orders for more than 14,000 charging stations to be deployed at Postal Service facilities. These awards are consistent with the vehicle electrification strategy announced by USPS in December.

Stellantis announces $155 million investment in three Indiana plants



(March 1, 2023) AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Stellantis has announced that it will invest $155 million in three Kokomo, Ind., plants to produce new electric drive modules (EDM) that will help power future electric vehicles assembled in North America and to support the goal of 50% battery-electric sales in the U.S. by 2030. With more than 25 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) launches planned in the U.S. between now and 2030, the Kokomo-built EDM will be integrated into vehicles designed on the STLA Large and STLA Frame platforms.

LG Energy Solution and Honda break ground for joint venture battery plant



(March 1, 2023) Honda and LG Energy Solution have held the official groundbreaking ceremony for a new joint venture EV battery plant over 2 million square feet in size, to be located in Fayette County, near Jeffersonville, Ohio. The two companies have committed to invest $3.5 billion in the new joint venture (JV) facility, with their overall investment projected to reach $4.4 billion.
