Sales at record high for General Motors in China

(September 6, 2012) SHANGHAI — General Motors and its joint ventures set a new August sales mark in China. Sales rose 7.3 percent from the previous August and 10.8 percent from July to 220,996 units.

All three of GM’s key manufacturing joint ventures set sales records for the month. Shanghai GM’s domestic sales were up 11.7 percent on an annual basis to 110,209 units. SAIC-GM-Wuling’s sales in China rose 3.4 percent to 106,500 units. FAW-GM’s domestic sales increased 17.4 percent to 4,117 units.

Nissan Leaf sales continue to fall; 20,000 sales target unlikely

(September 6, 2012) NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Nissan Leaf will almost certainly not hit the Japanese automaker's U.S. sales target of 20,000 for 2012, sales figures released Tuesday show.

Sales of the electric Nissan Leaf continued to struggle in August, though they were up over July. Nissan Motor Co. said it sold just 685 Leafs in August, down 50 percent from August 2011. For the year, Nissan has sold 4,228, down 31.5 percent.

Ford recalls new Escape for third time

(September 6, 2012) DETROIT — Ford has issued a third recall of its newly launched 2013 Escape, saying an improperly installed part could cause a fire in the engine compartment. The recall affects about 7,600 Escapes equipped with 1.6-liter engines.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Web site says the vehicles were built between Oct. 5, 2011, and Aug. 31, 2012.

Toyota breaks ground on training center In Illinois

(September 6, 2012) AURORA, Ill. — Toyota Motor Sales  broke ground on a  $4.9 million training center in Aurora on Wednesday. The facility is part of a campus-wide building project for Toyota's regional sales office, which is located on Sequoia Drive in Aurora.

Ford takes wraps off Euro Fiesta

(September 6, 2012) DETROIT — Ford has revealed a refreshed Fiesta B-car that will launch in Europe later this year, followed by a North American introduction in 2013. The new Fiesta features a number of technologies, including Active City Stop, a system offered in Europe that automatically applies the brakes if an imminent collision is detected.

Chrysler Canada reports highest August sales since 2000

(September 5, 2012) WINDSOR, Ontario — Chrysler Canada has announced its 33rd consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth, representing the longest sales streak in the company’s history. August 2012 sales were 20,569 compared with 18,816 in August, 2011, which represents a 9 per cent increase. Chrysler Canada experienced the best calendar-year-to date sales since 2000, with 175,017 vehicles sold.

Toyota sales up 40 percent over August 2011

(September 5, 2012) TORRANCE, Calif. — Toyota has reported August 2012 sales results of 188,520 units, an increase of 40.2 percent compared to the same period last year on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis. On a raw volume basis, unadjusted for 27 selling days in August 2012 compared to 26 selling days in August 2011, Toyota sales were up 45.6 percent from the year-ago month.

General Motors August sales up 10 percent over 2011

(September 5, 2012)  DETROIT — General Motors has reported August sales of 240,520 vehicles in the United States, up 10 percent compared with a year ago. GM increased its sales to retail customers by 11 percent, making August its best retail month of the year. Sales to fleet customers were up 6 percent compared with a year ago. All four GM brands posted higher total and retail sales.
