Chrysler Canada reports highest August sales since 2000

(September 5, 2012) WINDSOR, Ontario — Chrysler Canada has announced its 33rd consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth, representing the longest sales streak in the company’s history. August 2012 sales were 20,569 compared with 18,816 in August, 2011, which represents a 9 per cent increase. Chrysler Canada experienced the best calendar-year-to date sales since 2000, with 175,017 vehicles sold.

“Our passenger car sales were up 84 per cent in August and with the fuel-efficient, stylish and affordable Dodge Dart just starting to arrive across Canada, we’re positioned for even further growth.” said Dave Buckingham, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Canada. "Celebrating its launch, the 2013 Dodge Dart reported 423 units sold in its first full month of sales."

Chrysler Canada sold 3,202 passenger cars in August, representing an 84 per cent increase over August 2011, when there were 1,736 cars reported sold. Chrysler 200 had another strong month, reporting record August sales of 1,052 units, more than doubling sales compared with the same period in 2011.

Fiat 500 continues its torrid sales pace with 750 units sold in August 2012, compared with 616 in August, 2011. This represents a 22 per cent increase and an August sales record.

Dodge Journey set an August record with 2,404 vehicle sales. This represents an increase of 11 per cent over the same period, one year ago. Since its launch in 2008, Dodge Journey has consistently been the best-selling crossover in the country. Dodge Grand Caravan held its ground as the #4 best- selling vehicle in the country with 5,490 vehicles sold in August 2012, compared with 5,466 in August 2011. This also marks an August sales record for the Windsor-built vehicle.

The  Jeep Wrangler continues to shatter sales records with 1,951 vehicles, helping it to handily hold onto its spot as the #1 selling compact SUV in the country.

5,464 Ram pickup trucks were sold in August, up from 5,257 sold in the same period, one year ago. This represents a 4 per cent increase as well as an August sales record. Ram continues to be on pace to have a record sales year in 2012. Recently, hundreds of Ram owners gathered in Dresden, Ontario and set a Guinness World Record for the longest parade of Ram trucks.
