1918 Cadillac added to Library of Congress Historic Vehicle Register

(July 24, 2014) DETROIT — A 1918 Cadillac Type 57 that earned its place in history during World War I has received an honor of its own. It is the fourth vehicle added to the Historic Vehicle Association’s new National Historic Vehicle Register and U.S. Department of the Interior Historic American Engineering Record.

 The HVA and Cadillac announced the listing, which was archived in the Library of Congress on Wednesday.

(July 22, 2014) LONDON — Silverstone Auctions is offering the opportunity to own a unique and very special car, with connections to one of the most famous women of the 20th Century, in its sale at Salon Privé on Sept. 4. The car, a 1951 Cadillac Limousine, estimated at between £200,000 ($342,000) and £260,000 ($444,600), served as the official state limousine for Eva Peron, affectionately remembered as Evita, and her husband, the Argentine President Juan Peron.

Acres of vintage 'abandoned' cars to be auctioned in Canada

(July 21, 2014) When we viewed this massive collection of what we here at MotorwayAmerica considers "abandoned cars" we were astounded, awe-struck that so many dilapidated and worn out vehicles could be stored at one place. Hemmings Daily Blog reported last week that the acres of automobiles belongs to Murray King of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada. And King next month will put his 550-vehicle derelict car collection up for sale.

Classic car owners receive historic pricing at vintage-themed gas

(July 12, 2014) TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — To celebrate National Collector Car Appreciation Day on July 11, Hagerty Classic Car Magazine transformed a gas station on Michigan's famous Woodward Avenue into a full service station from the past, complete with classic gas prices. Hagerty brought back the full-service station experience from America's golden automotive era, serving over 200 classic cars more than 1,400 gallons of gas.

Classic Peugeots gather for UK event

(July 11, 2014) SOUTHAMPTON, England — One of the rarest collections of Peugeots ever assembled in the UK proved that "Motion and Emotion" doesn’t just apply to the latest models. Last month, more than 120 classic Peugeots met up for the annual International Peugeot Meeting, held this year in the UK, near Southampton. With a theme of "Best of British" international guests were treated to fine fare from across the UK throughout the weekend.

Chrysler's revolutionary Airflow vehicle explained in a 1934 film

(June 30, 2014) Chrysler was the first American automaker to streamline a vehicle when it introduced the Chrysler Airflow in 1934. Led by Chrysler engineer Carl Breer, the company sought to build a car that was less susceptible to air resistance to get more performance from the engine and increase gas mileage.

It was a strange-looking — although aerodynamic — car for the times designed with the help of wind tunnel tests and with the cooperation of famed airplane inventor Orville Wright. By 1930, Chrysler engineers had performed tests on more than 50 scale models.

Collection of 14 classic cars, six motorcycles to be auctioned in UK

(June 25, 2014) GAYDON, UK — An eclectic private collection of 14 classic cars and six motorcycles, spanning nearly 90 years, will be offered by Silverstone Auctions as part of its Silverstone Classic Sale on July 26 and 27.

The collection, the first such to be consigned by Silverstone Auctions, is currently owned by well-known and highly successful Midland's motor industry character, Mike Hewitt. Since retiring in 2011, he has spent his time acquiring and fully restoring a wide variety of cars and motorcycles that are now offered for sale at Silverstone circuit.

Green Hornet Black Beauty car, complete with machine guns, up for sale

(June 19, 2014) The screen-used Black Beauty hero car used in the 2011 film The Green Hornet, will be auctioned next week by Massachusetts based, RR Auction. The 1965 Chrysler Imperial, built by Dennis McCarthy of Vehicle Effects in California, is one of just two hero cars remaining from the production.

The customized Chrysler Imperial features its original 413 engine, has 71,421 miles on the odometer, and is the only one built with its original headliner and black leather seats.
