Two original Shelby GT350 Mustang prototypes to meet in Tulsa

(June 13, 2014) More than three decades after taping a full-page ad ripped from a 1965 car magazine above his bunk on an Alaskan crab boat, Mark Hovander is touring the country this year with the same Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang pictured on that page. Hovander and his crosstown friend John Atzbach are big fans of the first-generation Shelby Mustang, and between them they own two of the three original prototypes.

Greyhound commemorating 100th anniversary with mobile museum tour

(June 10, 2014) DALLAS — Years ago traveling meant taking the train or bus. If you leave the car at home today, your first stop will probably be the closest airport. But long-distance highway travel is still possible thanks to companies such as Greyhound, which this year is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

Chrysler attempts to put Italian flavor into the brand in the late '80s

(June 5, 2014) It has to be one of oddest collaborations in automotive history. In the mid 1980s Chrysler under the direction of Lee Iacocca formed a partnership with Italy's exotic carmaker Maserati to build a premium convertible called the TC.

The press was critical of the Chrysler TC, which combined a Chrysler body (based on the Dodge Daytona platform) with a Maserati engine, for its similarity to the Chrysler LeBaron GTC convertible that cost much less than the $33,000 to $37,000 asking price for the TC.

Looking back at the large Buick Roadmaster Estate of the '90s

(May 31, 2014) Someone in Beaufort, N.C., is apparently a fan of the early 1990s Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon. Three copies of nearly identical Roadmasters were found parked in a lot, all looking in good shape.

Buick revived the Roadmaster name for the larger wagon in 1991, which was a badge engineered Chevrolet Caprice Estate. It was also sold as an Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. The three variants differed mainly in grille design and trim. The Buick came with a simulated woo
dgrain side and back panels.

Documentary depicts Chevrolet's vast ad campaign for its new 1937 car

(May 22, 2014) An interesting nearly 14-minute documentary from 1936 depicts the extent of the vast advertising blitz Chevrolet was planning in its run-up to Nov. 7, 1935, the day the new 1937 Chevrolet was to be introduced in showrooms around the country. The ad campaign was far-ranging in a time before television could bring the same message to as many people in a series of 30-second television ads in prime time or at a major sporting event.
