Campaign challenges 3,000-mile oil change habit

Not necessarily, according to the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), which today announced the "Check Your Number" campaign to encourage drivers to rethink their current habits and only change motor oil as needed.

One out of three drivers admit to drowsy driving, study finds

(November 4, 2011) WASHINGTON — Nearly all drivers — 96 percent — feel drowsy driving is an unacceptable behavior, yet almost a third — 32 percent — admitted driving when they were so tired that they had difficulty keeping their eyes open in the past month, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety 's 2011 safety culture survey.

Study: Traffic crashes cost U.S. motorists almost $300 billion per year

Kbb.com names top 10 Chevys of all time

(November 1, 2011) IRVINE, Calif. — Kelley Blue Book has named the Top 10 Chevys of All Time, including the most significant product and design developments in the company's long and storied 100-year history. 

Formed in November 1911 by pioneering automotive businessman William C. Durant and his then-partner, famed Swiss racing driver and engineer, Louis Chevrolet, the most successful division in General Motors history is finishing preparations to celebrate its 100th year in operation. 

2011 model year inventory running out — 'Days to Turn' rate lowest on record

(November 1, 2011) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Edmunds.com noted today that October may officially be the turning point for the automotive model year.

In October, 2012 model year vehicles made up 52.3 percent of new car sales; in September the figure was only 35 percent. Chrysler and Honda were among the brands that practically doubled their 2012 sales penetration from September levels, while Toyota more than tripled its 2012 share this month.

Female car buyers find love with Porsche

(October 28, 2011) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Female car buyers are making up a larger customer base for some of the top domestic auto brands, but none approach the gains that Porsche has made with women this year, according to an analysis by Edmunds.com.

The analysis found that of all automakers, Porsche has made the largest relative market share gains among women nationwide over the past year.

One year after brand's death, Pontiac owners show loyalty to GM

(October 28, 2011) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — One year after the last remaining Pontiac dealers shut down for good on October 31 2010, General Motors has managed to maintain — and even grow — the loyalty rate of former Pontiac owners, according to data analyzed by Edmunds.com.

Edmunds.com found that 39.9 percent of Pontiac owners who traded in for a new car this year opted for a GM vehicle. This retention rate is eight-percentage-points greater than GM's retention rate in 2010, and represents the highest retention rate since 2007, when the rate was also 39.9 percent.

Economist says auto sales more likely to rise than fall because of 'basement thesis'
