Subaru BRZ — Driving enjoyment on a budget

By Jim Meachen

(August 14, 2022) Driving the 2022 Subaru BRZ took me back to a time long, long ago when I coveted an affordable new sports car, and the 1975 Datsun 280Z fit my budget and my need for a moderately priced cutting-edge machine. The 2022 Subaru BRZ is much like the '75 280Z in as much as both are — and were — desirable and affordable for those of us with a limited amount of money to realize our motoring dreams.

(July 27, 2022) With a dated lineup of utility vehicles that are well past their freshness date, Nissan has been rejuvenating its SUVs and the Pathfinder is the latest to receive a comprehensive and complete redesign for the 2022 model year. The previous Pathfinder was well out of its league and at the bottom of the segment against exceptionally good competitors like the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

(July 24, 2022) The all-new 2022 Lexus  LX 600 enters the marketplace as a big and luxurious three-row vehicle for those who value a soft ride, ultra-quiet interior, most of the safety and convenience technology available — and the ability to go far off road. It's the king of the SUVs in the Toyota/Lexus stable replacing the long-running LX 570 and helps fill the void created by the departure of the Toyota Land Cruiser from the North American market.

(July 17, 2022) Although the current-generation three-row Mazda CX-9 was introduced way back in 2016, it continues to be one of the most alluring mid-sized crossover SUVs on the market. One of the reasons we came away feeling good about the stylish people hauler after a week behind the wheel was due to the fact we were driving the near-luxury Signature trim.

(July 10, 2022) With Nissan apparently planning to exit the full-size U.S. pickup truck market after two decades of attempting to crack the code of the Big Three manufacturers, Toyota is betting with an all-new full-sized Tundra pickup that it has the stuff to gain market share.

2022 Chevy Bolt EUV

PHOENIX — In 2017 Chevrolet first came out with the all-electric Bolt hatchback. Now for 2022 the Bolt has been redesigned and the brand expanded by introducing the Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle) that is a bit larger and more practical.  Chevrolet is vaguely suggesting the Bolt EUV is a crossover vehicle, but it’s front-wheel drive only and its low ground clearance fails as a utility vehicle. The regular Bolt EV has a starting price of $31,500, the Bolt EUV is $2,000 more at $33,500.

Toyota Sienna — It's all about the gas milage

(June 26, 2022) When we first drove the newest generation Toyota Sienna minivan about 14 months ago we were impressed by a number of things Toyota had done to improve styling and update the vehicle with scads of storage, a user-friendly interface, and a large helping of new technology. We also praised its extraordinary gas mileage. We recently drove another Sienna, a 2022 Platinum Hybrid, this spring on a 350-mile round trip to our favorite beach and we have elevated the Sienna's exceptional gas mileage to the top of our list for reasons to purchase.
