(March 9, 2022) It’s been two model years since we last drove and tested Mercedes compact luxury SUV when it was first introduced for the 2020 model year. The 2022 GLB tested here is nearly identical to the 2020 and 2021 model since its debut adding standard blind spot monitoring for 2021 and both SiriusXM satellite radio and a 115-volt power outlet added to the optional Premium package for 2022.

(March 13, 2022) We've been blessed with the opportunity to drive three variations of the BMW 4-Series in the past 18 months, all outfitted with the M performance 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that provides all the driving thrills and enjoyment you expect from the "Ultimate Driving Machine" company. It makes 382 horsepower ad 396 pound-feet of torque directed to all four wheels in the M440i configuration.

Hyundai Venue — Good transportation at a great price

(March 9, 2022) Remember back to the mid 80s when the Yugoslavian-built Yugo was hyped as the least expensive new car on the market? Why buy used, when a new car is within reach at a very affordable price, Yugo dealers argued. That turned out to be very bad advice because the Yugo proved unsafe and unreliable. A five-year-old Civic or Corolla were much better purchases at the same price — hugely more reliable and with a better trade-in value.

Toyota Corolla — A good value with a stick shift

(March 6, 2022) We are amazed that Toyota continues to offer a manual transmission in its 2022 Corolla. Based on the average age of a Corolla buyer we figure so few would opt for a shift-for-yourself transmission — and even know how to operate one — that it would be hard for Toyota to make an economic case for it. It's no secret that manual transmissions are a dying breed, and most automakers refuse to even build them anymore.

2022 Cadillac XT6 Platinum

INDIANAPOLIS — There’s no question the Cadillac Escalade is an incredible SUV, able to move passengers and all their stuff in three rows of splendor.  But, most luxury buyers don’t need a full-size truck capable of pulling a 30-foot RV or coastal yacht.  For them, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 Platinum might be a better choice that still lets them marinate in luxury.

2022 BMW 230i Coupe

PHOENIX — The BMW 2-series is the German automakers entry-level-two-door with the 2022 model year introducing an all-new generation for the model. For 2022 the 2 Series is offered in two completely different cars — the front-wheel drive Gran Coupe, a four-door sedan, the other a rear-wheel drive two-door coupe with all-wheel drive optional tested here.

(February 27, 2022) It was called Hardbody — a spunky, chunky compact pickup truck from the mid-1980s to mid-90s that was the most macho thing to come out of Nissan, offering a V-6 ‘tween squared-off flared fenders. It was an in-your-face pickup when Toyotas, Fords and Chevys were less aggressive. And it sold very well indeed, more than 127,000 in the U.S. in its last full sales

Ford Escape PHEV — Electric power for the chores of life

(February 27, 2022) You are probably aware of all the electric car hype, but aren't ready to consider an EV for a variety of reasons such as price, availability of charging stations in your area, the cost of installing a Level 2 charger, and because you have nothing against the modern internal combustion engine (ICE). Perhaps if you dipped your toe in the electric pool you could get a better handle on electric ownership?

2022 Porsche 911 GTS

PHOENIX — It’s early morning and I’m on the Apache Trail, a two-lane blacktop highway in central Arizona. The Trail opens up with a rare straightaway for the passing zone. Just ahead of me, a wide, smooth hairpin curve comes into view as I negotiate one of the countless hills and dips that open into a seemingly endless serving of S curves carved into the side of cactus-forested mountains and chiseled desert canyons.

Kia Stinger — Still one of our favorite rides

(February 20, 2022) For most of the 21st Century Kia has been among the best at vehicle design — inside and out. Perhaps the leading example of its styling prowess over the past two decades is the mid-sized Stinger sports sedan that came to market as a 2018 model. It has an aggressive yet graceful design that skillfully incorporates a cargo-friendly hatchback. Over the past five years the Stinger has remained mostly the same — with a few exterior tweaks — but still has a fresh head-turning persona.
