2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness

INDIANAPOLIS — I did a thing.  A good thing, as it turns out.  After driving the new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness at its preview in Michigan, I couldn’t quit thinking about how cool it looked, how capable it was off-road, and how comfortable and practical it would be for my family.  The turbo engine kicked me in the pants.  We owned a 2017 Outback for nearly five years, so my family was well acquainted with the breed.  Turns out, our old car held its value incredibly well.  And now, there’s a new Wilderness edition in our driveway.

Subaru Crosstrek — Now with more horsepower

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The compact Subaru Crosstrek CUV has been popular with shoppers since its inception in 2012. We've like it too, during test drives in 2013 and 2018. Very few complaints other than its performance — it didn't have quite enough urgency to suit our tastes. The big news for 2021 is that Subaru has alleviated that concern with a new 2.5-liter flat 4-cylinder engine making 182 horsepower. It's the same engine used in he mid-sized Legacy sedan and the Outback crossover.

Subaru Legacy — Safe and comfortable

(May 3, 2020) Subaru has a very loyal following that has kept the company moving forward in sales virtually every month for the last several years. For instance, sales in February — the last month before the current COVID-19 crisis — jumped 5.3 percent over February 2019 and nearly hit 100,000 for the first two months of the year. There's little doubt that 2020 would have been another record year. We point this out because in addition to the company's loyal buyers, Subaru has kept its vehicles fresh and desirable.

Subaru Outback — New and refined

Subaru customers are some of the most loyal on the planet. And loyalty to the iconic Outback — the vehicle that arguably lifted the Japanese brand into the mainstream nearly three decades ago — enjoys a good portion of this loyalty. Today the all-new 2020 Outback will not disappoint. It represents an impressive leap forward in virtually all categories including styling, performance, ride and handling, and technology and safety.

2020 Subaru Outback

SAN FRANCISCO — Subaru could have radically changed the Outback for 2020.  The design team explored options from super sleek wagons to upright crossovers that would make the proverbial outhouse look aerodynamic.  Yet, when they discussed what current and potential owners wanted, it was obvious the shape should look like, well, an Outback.

Subaru Forester — Safe and reliable

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

We've liked the small Subaru Forester crossover SUV since its inception in 1998 — although two decades ago it was more a high-riding station wagon with all-wheel drive than a SUV — and nothing about the vehicle up to the current all-new fifth-generation model has altered our opinion.

Subaru Ascent — Checking all the boxes

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Virtually every mainstream automaker has at least one large crossover SUV in its lineup. So it is only fitting that Subaru, a pioneer in the crossover segment with its long-running Outback, has joined the fray with the three-row 2019 Ascent.

Subaru Crosstrek — Solid advancement

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

When the Crosstrek was introduced as a 2013 model we wondered if there was room in the Subaru lineup for another crossover practically the same size as the award-winning Forester, which had been on the market since 1998. We asked, how could Subaru support two nearly identically sized compact crossovers?

2018 Subaru Crosstrek

DEADWOOD, S.D. — Is there anything better than waking up in a tent to the sound of thunder, lightning, and rain pattering?  I’m crazy, but I love it.  If there’s anything better, it’s knowing the new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is sitting outside, able to get you back out of the remote place from which you’re enjoying Mother Nature’s fury.  Subaru people camp. They also surf, ski, hike, bike, and kayak.

Subaru Impreza — Proven safety

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Safety is a big concern for new-car shoppers and modern safety technology such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert, lane keep assist and blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert can be found as standard or optional equipment in virtually every car sold regardless of segment.
