Hyundai and Amazon evolve the digital retail experience

The expansion of the digital showroom allows shoppers to discover available vehicles at participating dealers and begin the vehicle selection process directly on Amazon.

(October 8, 2021) BRISTOL, Tenn. — George Linke grew up around car racing and tinkering on vehicles with his family. During the pandemic, Juliana, 7, expressed interest in helping her dad with home projects from painting to building a backyard deck. Keen on feeding her curiosity, Linke allowed her to watch, learn and participate where she could. Eager to give her more hands-on experience, Linke got an idea to start a new project together — restoring a car.

A 'personal luxury' coupe of the '70s



This used up two-door coupe, which looks like a late-70s model Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was found deteriorating in Utah. We couldn't determine the exact make and year, but the Monte Carlo was one of several "personal luxury cars" built through the decade. Others included the Buick Riviera, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Chrysler Cordoba. Remember the Chrysler's "rich Corinthian leather" made famous in the Cordoba ads by actor Ricardo Montalban in 1974?

Mazda to build CX-50 in Alabama; introduce two more new SUVs



(October 7, 2021)TOKYO — Mazda is beefing up its crossover lineup, starting with the addition of a newly minted mid-size Mazda CX-50 to be made at its plant in Alabama. That new nameplate, which will arrive in 2022, will be followed by a slew of new products that will be built on the Japanese automaker's upcoming large-vehicle platform. Some North America offerings will use robust turbo-charged inline six-cylinder engines and plug-in hybrid systems.

GM details plan to double its revenue, drive even higher margins



(October 7, 2021) WARREN, Mich.  — General Motors has provided a detailed roadmap of how the company plans to double its annual revenue and expand margins to 12 to 14 percent by 2030, as a result of GM’s transformation into a growth company driven by EVs, connected services and new businesses. “GM has changed the world before and we’re doing it again,” said GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra. “We have multiple drivers of long-term growth and I’ve never been more confident or excited about the opportunities ahead.”

BMW Group invests in method for efficient and sustainable lithium extraction



(October 6, 2021) MUNICH, Germany — The BMW Group is stepping up its expansion of electromobility and will be releasing about 10 million fully-electric vehicles onto the roads over the next ten years or so. By 2030, at least half the BMW Group’s global sales are expected to come from fully-electric vehicles. This will also increase the need for lithium, an important raw material for production of battery cells.
