Three GM products number one in J.D. Power China study

(December 6, 2010) SHANGHAI — The Chevrolet New Sail, Chevrolet Spark and Wuling Rong Guang finished first in their respective segments in the recently released J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2010 China Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.

The APEAL Study is a customer-reported measure of what gratifies owners in China regarding their new vehicle’s performance and design during the first two to six months of ownership.

The New Sail from Shanghai GM (SGM) was first in the Premium Compact Segment. The Spark from SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) was first in the Compact Segment. The Rong Guang, also from SGMW, was first in the Minivan Segment. In addition, the new Buick LaCrosse from SGM came in third in the Upper Premium Midsize Segment, while the Wuling Sunshine from SGMW was third in the Minivan Segment.

Now in its eighth year, the APEAL Study examines 82 attributes in 10 vehicle categories — vehicle exterior; vehicle interior; storage and space; audio/entertainment/navigation; seats; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC); driving dynamics; engine/transmission; visibility and driving safety; and fuel economy.

It is based on evaluations from more than 14,600 new-vehicle owners who purchased a new passenger vehicle between October 2009 and June 2010 in 33 major cities across China. This year’s study covered nine segments.

“We are pleased with the latest results from J.D. Power,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “They once again reaffirm the overwhelming satisfaction of China’s vehicle buyers in our locally engineered and locally developed products.”

Four popular models from SGM and SGMW earlier finished in the top three of their respective segments in the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2010 China Initial Quality Study released in October. In addition, the Chevrolet brand from Shanghai GM came in first in the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2010 China Customer Service Index Study released in July and first in the 2010 China Automobile Aftersales Customer Satisfaction Index announced in October.
