Subaru forecasts big growth in U.S. over next five years

(July 6, 2011) — Subaru has been on a roll in the United States with stead month over month and year over year improved sales. The Japanese company sold a record 264,000 vehicles in the United States last year.

It expects its recent success to continue, today forecasting that it sees sales rising to 380,000 units in the U.S. over the next five years.

The brand sees sales rising 37 percent to 900,000 units globally by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, from 657,000 units in the fiscal year that ended March 31, parent company Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. said today while announcing its “Motion-V” mid-term plan.

The five-year plans calls for Subaru to improve the fuel efficiency of its lineup by 30 percent as it introduces four new vehicles, including its first gasoline-electric hybrid in 2013.
