(May 7, 2013) WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. — For those who prefer to explore roads less-traveled — whether on two wheels or two feet — BMW Motorrad now offers the new Navigator Adventure in addition to the popular Navigator IV as a navigational tool for BMW Motorrad riders.

With universal software and longer battery life, the Navigator Adventure is a versatile GPS navigation system that can be used for a host of outdoor activities, such as cycling, hiking or sailing, as well as motorcycling.  Pre-installed North American roadmaps, free map updates (up to four times a year via Garmin website) and a car installation kit, available as a special accessory, make the Navigator Adventure a reliable long-term travel partner.

The BMW Motorrad Navigator Adventure makes touring on unfamiliar routes easier, safer and more enjoyable.  A four-inch touch screen with selectable orientation (portrait or landscape) enables users to determine their current GPS position quickly and precisely — whether in dense forests, deep gorges or amidst tall buildings. The dual battery system accommodates either a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack or conventional AA batteries providing 16 to 22 hours of battery life within a waterproof housing.

 For outdoor activities, the BMW Motorrad Navigator Adventure has an integrated electronic 3-axis compass with tilt correction and a barometric altimeter. GPX files for geocaching are supported and are transferred directly to the Navigator Adventure (for example from the http://GeoCaching.com website). Important information for locating a geocache, such as position, terrain and degree of difficulty, as well as information and descriptions, can be read directly from the display.

 Data such as waypoints, tracks and geocaches can be logged in the calendar so that the activities can be retraced at a later point.  In addition, the Navigator Adventure is compatible with Custom Maps, enabling personalized map data to be generated on the basis of electronic maps, which can then be loaded on the navigation system.  The MicroSD map slots make it possible to load more map data, such as topographical maps for hiking or cycling.

 The BMW Motorrad Navigator Adventure is supplied with a mount bracket for secure mounting on all BMW motorcycle models (except the R 1200 GS, the K 1600 GT and the K 1600 GTL) as an alternative to the Navigator IV.
