Quail Motorcycle Gathering to celebrate notable machines

(January 20, 2020) CARMEL, Calif. — The Quail Motorcycle Gathering will return to Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California on Saturday, May 16. The 12th annual event will present four featured classes along with gourmet food, product demonstrations from leading manufacturers and hands-on activities for all ages to enjoy. Three of the featured classes will be celebrating 50 years of the Harley-Davidson XR750, MV Agusta 750 and BMW /5; additionally, one brand-new non-motorcycle class has been added featuring hot rods and classic cars.

The XR750 was the most dominant production race bike ever built and was raced by greats such as Mert Lawwill, Cal Rayburn and Jay Springsteen, but it was made even more popular by world-renowned daredevil Evil Knievel.

The MV Agusta 750S is often considered one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever built—with less than 600 examples constructed in total, a class featuring several examples of the famed Italian bike is a rare sight to behold. Widely adored by a strong following of enthusiasts and customizers, the BMW /5 series of motorcycles were the first to be manufactured completely in Berlin from 1970 to 1973 and featured electric starting and telescopic forks.

New to 2020, The Quail Motorcycle Gathering will present the Arlen Ness Memorial Award to a custom motorcycle builder in honor of the late Arlen Ness, who was the 2018 Legend of the Sport.

“The Quail Motorcycle Gathering offers an unparalleled experience featuring the rarest vintage and modern bikes in addition to leading motorcycle manufacturers and top lifestyle brands,” said Gordon McCall, director of Motorsports for The Peninsula Signature Events. “We are thrilled to celebrate the golden anniversaries of three very influential motorcycles as well as welcome an entirely new class of hot rods and classic cars to appeal to a more diverse crowd of motoring enthusiasts. We expect the 2020 event to be one of the best gatherings to date.”

As always, the show will take place on the pristine lawns of Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel. Featuring a variety of activities for people of all ages to enjoy, guests can indulge in farm-to-table Mexican cuisine and goods from motorcycle lifestyle vendors. Children, families and even pets are welcome.

New this year, The Quail Motorcycle Gathering is offering general public admission only tickets at $55 which include parking and gear valet service for those riding a motorcycle to the event.
