(October 4, 2013) AURORA, Ill. — Stranded motorists shouldn't be surprised if they see a pink tow truck coming to their aid. For the second time in AAA's more than 110-year history, it is painting its classic red, white and blue tow trucks the color pink in order to raise awareness of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in collaboration with the American Cancer Society. 

AAA's new pink tow truck will service Chicagoland throughout National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will assist AAA members and may be seen by Chicagoland millions of residents and visitors. 

"We assist more than 25 percent of the driving public with AAA roadside assistance — and our service vehicles are seen on our nation's roadways by millions of motorists each day," said Gerry Gutowski, Sr. Vice President, AAA Automotive Services, The Auto Club Group. "Our hope is that pink tow trucks will garner attention and spread awareness to help in the fight against breast cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer death in women."

In addition to the pink trucks, AAA will also play an integral role in helping to host the more than 3,000 walkers expected on Oct. 26  for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk (MSABC) at Soldier Field in Chicago.

AAA is a sponsor of the event and it will host its own team of walkers to raise money for the American Cancer Society. AAA will also provide free roadside assistance to any who may have car troubles with lockouts, flat tires or dead batteries.  AAA's pink tow truck will be on hand at the event and will be available to assist anyone, both members and nonmembers, in need.

"I am a breast cancer survivor and I work for AAA in Chicago," said Alene Adams, casualty claims representative, AAA Chicago. "It's comforting to know that the company I work for understands what I am going through and would support awareness initiatives in such a visible way."

AAA will wrap 17 trucks in 16 cities in seven states to help attract attention to this important cause.
