Pictures of new 1 Series BMW surface

(June 8, 2011) Pictures of the new 2012 BMW 1 Series have been leaked and are now floating over the Internet. The first reveal of the new small BMW was to be made at the Frankfort motor show in September.

The wagon-like hatchback is stylish in a small car sort of way and will be a true BMW with rear-wheel drive and at least a couple of engine choices for the U.S. market mated to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Engines will include a new 1.6 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder in two different configurations developing 136 or 170 horsepower. The European edition will get a diesel configuration with three horsepower ranges from 116 to 184 hp.

The new platform on which the BMW 1 Series rides is 3.3 inch longer than the previous iteration and that means the new length of the vehicle is 170 inches. It is said to have two inches more legroom for second-row passengers.
