New engine guide reviews history, specs of 21 Toyota engine families

(March 14, 2017) OLATHE, Kan. — Olathe Toyota Parts Center is offering a new Comprehensive Guide to Toyota Engines, detailing all Toyota engine families available from the mid-1980s to today. Offered as a free download, the book details 21 different Toyota engine families, with history, current applications, and detailed specs for each.

The guide was written by the experts at Olathe Toyota Parts Center, one of the leading retailers of OEM Toyota parts in the United States.

"The collective parts knowledge at Olathe Toyota Parts Center adds up to more than a century of Toyota parts expertise. We decided to take advantage of this knowledg
e and build a nice guide to Toyota engines," says Tom Blackman, director at Olathe Toyota Parts Center. "We tried to make the guide an easy read as well as a handy reference."

Organized by engine family, the book is easy to use as a reference. With a focus on engines produced since 1988, the Toyota engine guide explains:

    • The historical origin of each engine family, making it easy for Toyota enthusiasts to understand how each engine came to be

    • The specs of each engine, including sub-variants, and the applications of these engines across
the Toyota line-up

    • An explanation of Toyota's engine naming system, which will help Toyota enthusiasts identify engines by model number

"What I like best about our guide is that it helps explain how Toyota approaches engine development and why certain engines are in certain vehicles," Blackman says. "Toyota's commitment to quality and reliability — and their success — is easier to understand after reading our guide."

From workhorses to powerhouses, the guide includes details about the LR engine in the Lexus LFA supercar, as well as the venerable R series that first debuted in the 1950s. The book also includes photos of each engine family. The book can be downloaded here.
