Mercedes to recall 2,297 diesel-powered cars

(November 5, 2010) Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to recall 2,297 diesel-powered, model-year 2011 E-Class, GL, M-Class and R-Class vehicles for a problem that could lead to fuel leaks.

The issue concerns an improperly lubricated O-ring that could cause the fuel filter to leak and deposit diesel fuel on roads. As a result, road surfaces could become slippery, and this could cause a crash.

The problem was first noticed in Europe, where Daimler AG received customer complaints regarding fuel leakage. If you're an owner with an affected model, bring your vehicle in to your local Mercedes-Benz dealership for a free filter replacement.

The recall is expected to commence sometime in November, and owners can get more information by contacting Mercedes-Benz at 800-367-6372.
