(September 2, 2023) MONTEREY, Calif. —  Mecum’s annual Daytime Auction held Aug. 17-19, saw overall sales eclipse $45 million over the course of the three-day event. Held during Monterey Car Week, Mecum Monterey 2023 saw impressive individual sales, with the auction’s top sellers led by a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy Berlinettathat sold for $3.41 million and six of the top 10 breaking the $1 million mark.


Ferraris dominated the auction’s leading sellers, claiming seven of the top 10 slots. Claiming the second slot among top sellers was a 3,417-mile 1990 Ferrari F40 that garnered $2.53 million, followed by a 1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast Series II, the first of only 12 built, at $1.84 million and a 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS at $1.76 million.

Private vehicle collections also fared well in Monterey, selling for an aggregate of more than $19.21 million, with top-selling assemblages including the Veloce, Schnell & Fast Sports Car Collection that saw 21 vehicles sell for $12.91 million, The Don Williams Estate Collection selling eight vehicles for $1,010,990, and the Mike and Debbie Rogers Datsun Collection, which saw all eight cars sell for a total of $1,037,655 million, led by the Rogers’ 1969 Datsun Fairlady Z432  that sold for an impressive $297,000.

Other notable sales at Mecum Monterey 2023 included a 1956 Porsche 356A 1500 GS Carrera Speedster in the No. 7 spot, which sold for $935,000, the 1971 Chevrolet Corvette ZR2 Convertible that is one of only two ever produced and sold for $863,500, and a 1948 Packard Super 8 Convertible Victoria, the most recent owner of which was none other than basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a six-time NBA champion, the league’s only six-time MVP and one of the NBA’s all-time leading scorers.
