Infiniti JX crossover to feature unique backup collision intervention

(November 17, 2011) LOS ANGELES — The 2013 Infiniti JX luxury, three-row, seven-passenger crossover featuring Infiniti's Backup Collision Intervention system, was unveiled today during a press conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Backup Collision Intervention system, the latest of many advanced safety and security systems brought to market first in recent years by Infiniti, will be available in the spring of 2012 on the all-new JX crossover.

The system which has the ability to detect vehicular cross traffic and other rearward objects while backing up and, if necessary, will automatically apply the brakes to help prevent a collision.

Among the many other advanced standard and available technologies found throughout the new JX is Infiniti Connection, a new feature that can automatically synch the owner’s schedule through Google Calendar and then provides navigation guidance to appointments — along with multiple other functions.

Offered in both front-wheel drive and with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, the Infiniti JX comes with a standard 265-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 mated to a sport-tuned Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to provide high responsiveness and seamless, efficient shifting feel.

Fuel economy is expected to be rated at 23 mpg highway, 17 mpg city and a real-world 19 mpg combined.

“While many ‘people movers’ drive more like a van or bus, we heard from potential buyers that they didn’t want to give up the driving feel of their previous sports sedans just because they have growing families,” explained Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. “For the JX, we again focused on applying advanced technology, such as the sport CVT, to meet the demand for better fuel economy without sacrificing driving pleasure.”

“The all-new Infiniti JX embraces family customers in a way no luxury crossover has done before – recognizing their need to grow up, but without growing old,” Poore said. “Responsibility should come as a reward, rather than as a restriction on the things and activities you enjoyed as a single person or a couple.”

The JX will start at $40,450 in front-wheel drive and $41,550 in all-wheel drive. Those prices do not include destination charge.
