GM reports November sales record in China

(December 13, 2011) SHANGHAI — General Motors and its joint ventures in China reported a 20.4 percent increase in domestic sales to post a November record of 237,130 vehicles delivered. It was the third-best sales month of 2011.

Demand remained strong for Shanghai GM’s lineup of passenger cars, as the joint venture experienced a rise in domestic demand of 7.6 percent to 113,120 units.

SAIC-GM-Wuling’s sales of mini-commercial vehicles and passenger cars generated domestic sales growth of 40.4 percent to 119,133 units. Both were all-time November sales highs.

Sales of the Buick brand in China increased 16.6 percent on an annual basis to a November record of 59,763 units. Leading the way was the original Excelle passenger car family, which experienced increased demand of 24.7 percent to 23,885 units. Combined sales of the Excelle XT and Excelle GT, the newest members of the Excelle family, were up 30.8 percent to 15,264 units.

Chevrolet had its second-best November ever in China, with sales totaling 54,638 units. The Cruze remained the brand’s best-selling model in China, as demand reached 21,862 units. Right behind it was the New Sail family, which generated domestic sales of 20,249 units, an increase of 34.5 percent from November 2010.

Cadillac sales in China topped 3,000 units for the first time in a single month, rising 64.1 percent on an annual basis to 3,008 units. Demand for the SRX, Cadillac’s best-selling model in China, jumped 155.2 percent to 2,261 units in November.

Domestic sales of the Wuling brand increased 39.7 percent on an annual basis to an all-time November high of 108,826 units. Baojun sales totaled 6,018 units in the new passenger car brand’s fourth month on the market.

Domestic sales by FAW-GM in November decreased 30.8 percent on an annual basis to 4,642 units.

For the first 11 months as a whole, GM and its joint ventures sold a record 2,350,406 vehicles in China, which was up 8.2 percent from the same period last year and just short of last year’s full-year sales record of 2,351,610 units.
