Free mobile phone app offers instant protection to motorcyclists

(February 12, 2013) PRESTON, England — Bikers Friend provides an effortless way to document motorcycle accidents instantly from your mobile device, collecting evidence that can be used to protect bikers, and offers immediate guidance and other support just when a motorcyclist needs it the most. Created by an innovative media company, Bikers Friend is currently available for Android and Apple devices.

"Bikers Friend is one of those phone apps you hope you never need," says Colin Mahoney, creator of Bikers Friend, "but you'll be awfully glad you have it if you ever caught in an accident."

Indeed, as more and more vehicles take to the road, there will inevitably be more road traffic accidents. "This free app is the best witness any motorcyclist could ever have after an accident," says Mahoney. "By providing an extra layer of protection for motorcyclists, and hard proof and evidence for insurers, we make an already stressful situation a little bit easier for all involved."

Bikers Friend records such data as to the biker's exact location (with overlays on a Google map), the other driver's registration number and other important information. There is also a voice and video recording facility for recording aggression, vehicle damage and admissions of liability. Bikers Friend can also locate and call the nearest emergency services — police, ambulance or fire department.

It provides step-by-step guidance on what to do after an incident. If the user chooses to do so, the app will send all information to Motorcycle Compensation for immediate assessment by a qualified motorcycle riding solicitor giving a response within one hour. However, the app can also be used for storing information without giving Motorcycle Compensation.com instructions to act.

"Bikers Friend is constantly being improved upon," Mahoney notes, "updates and new versions will be totally free and will include meeting places for bikers, biker friendly hotels, and a total biker fm radio station (TBFM)."

Choosing to create Bikers Friend as a Smartphone app was an easy choice for Motorcycle Compensation. "There is no question that the mobile device is the fastest growing online search tool today," says Mahoney.

"As millions of people worldwide migrate to Smartphone usage, the number of people who are downloading apps and browsing the web on their phone is growing at an incredibly rapid pace. It is for this reason that Motorcycle Compensation has made its innovative and informative app available free to every motorcyclist. This is a UK first for sure, and possibly a worldwide first for motorcyclists."

Mahoney and his colleagues predict Bikers Friend will be invaluable to more than just motorcyclists and their insurers; it will also be welcomed by lawyers, insurance companies and motorcycle clubs who will recognize that it represents innovation and mobile technology at its best.

Besides being an avid motorcycle enthusiast, Mahoney is a software developer and marketer of legal services in the UK, with over 20 years of applicable legal experience. Of Motorcycle Compensation he says, "We're still a small firm of six expert motorcyclists who also happen to understand law, software design and what the biking community demands by way of added protection."

Mahoney reiterates that Bikers Friend is a free app, and the company intends to keep it that way. "We will never charge a single penny for this app, ever," he says.

Currently motorcyclists can download "Bikers Friend" from Google Play, and the Apple Store.
