Chevy Bolt EV named North American Car of the Year

(January 9, 2017) DETROIT — The Chevrolet Bolt EV, Chrysler Pacifica minivan, and Honda Ridgeline pickup were announced as the winners of the 2017 North American Car, Utility vehicle and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) at the start of media days today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The winners were picked by a jury of 57 auto journalists from across the United States and Canada.

The three separate awards are a first in NACTOY’s 24-year history. The newly-established Utility vehicle of the Year award recognizes the increasing attraction of utility vehicles such as crossovers, SUVs and passenger minivans.

The Chevy Bolt EV was chosen over a pair of all-new luxury sedans, the Korean-made Genesis G90 and the Volvo S90.

The all-new Pacifica is Chrysler’s
fresh interpretation of the minivan. The Pacifica beat out the Mazda CX-9 and Jaguar F-Pace.

It was a second win for Honda’s fully-redesigned version of its ground-breaking midsize pickup truck. The original Ridgeline won Truck of the Year honors in 2006.

The Ridgeline beat out the Ford Super Duty and the completely redesigned Nissan Titan.
