Aveo production begins in South Korea

(February 10, 2011) SEOUL — GM Korea this week celebrated the production of the first all-new Chevrolet Aveo at its Bupyeong #1 plant in Incheon. Sales of the new vehicle will start next month and there will be a global roll-out in the following months.

The all-new Aveo will contribute to drive Chevrolet’s sales growth in 2011.

The ceremony was attended by senior company executives including President and CEO Mike Arcamone, Labor Union Chairman Choo Young-Ho and company employees.

“The company is proud to be the first member of the GM family to produce and sell Chevrolet’s new small car. With demand for small cars on the rise worldwide, this is great news not only for our Korean customers, our employees and our suppliers,” said Arcamone. “With its high quality, we expect the all-new Aveo to help drive the growth of the small car market in Korea. We also expect it to contribute to the ongoing growth of Chevrolet in the rest of the world.”

As GM’s global base for de development of mini and small car architectures, the company led the design and engineering of the new model. With the production of the new Aveo, the utilization rate of the Bupyeong plant will rise sharply.  It will join the company’s plants in Gunsan, Changwon and Boryeong in operating at full capacity.
