2005-2006 Ford Taurus probed for throttle sticking

(March 13, 2012) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a preliminary investigation into claims of the throttle sticking open on the Ford Taurus from the 2005-06 model years.

NHSTA says there are 14 claims of a stuck throttle in the Taurus, possibly because of the cruise-control cable becoming detached. No injuries have been reported.

One report alleges that the issue resulted in a driver running a red light and stopping in the intersection. Some reports claim that the engine revs up to 4,000 rpm after the transmission is shifted into neutral or park. Some drivers said they had to shut off the engine or put the vehicle in neutral to stop it.

The investigation does not currently include the Mercury Sable, a rebadged version of the Taurus.
