Meyers Manx 2.0 electric — Beach boy redux

By David Boldt
MyCarData

(December 29, 2022) It was, as recalled by memory and verified by Wikipedia, in the spring of 1967 that the New York-based Car and Driver magazine ran the Meyers Manx on its cover. And if you excuse the mag for being late to the game (production of the Manx began in 1964 — but "surf’s up" will never resonate in Manhattan like it resonates in Manhattan Beach), the cover confirmed what many readers and enthusiasts — even this then-teenager in Nebraska, for gawdsake — already knew: the Bruce Meyers creation represented a sea change in how we considered the recreational vehicle.

(December 28, 2022) It’s the hottest 8-seat, 3-row SUV on the market with such a selling success that Kia literally can’t build enough of them to meet consumer demand. So much so that Kia is upping production at its West Point, Ga., manufacturing plant by 25 percent to around 120,000 a year.  It’s  the 4th bestselling 3-row SUV in America. In fact, it’s the one I recommend the most for anyone looking for a family friendly 3-row vehicle.

By Paul Borden

(December 27, 2022) Chrysler was the first automaker to offer a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain in a minivan when it revived the Pacifica for the 2017 model year, and it remains the only manufacturer with a plugin version with the 2022 Pacifica Hybrid. Considering all the emphasis on electric vehicles and their automotive future, it is kind of surprising that to date the Pacifica is the only plug-in minivan on the market. Toyota has put a standard hybrid drivetrain in all of its Sienna models, but offers no plug-in trim.

Most compact crossover SUVs fail IIHS rear-seat test

(December 22, 2022) The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is updating its longest-running crash test, the moderate overlap front evaluation, to address a growing gap in the protection provided for front and rear occupants. In the first tests, only two out of 15 small SUVs, the Ford Escape and Volvo XC40, protect the rear occupant well enough to earn a good rating.
