Honda and Toyota transaction prices continue to climb

(July 3, 2012) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — TrueCar.com estimated today that the average transaction price for light vehicles in the United States was $30,508 in June, up $849 (2.9 percent) from June 2011 and up $148 (0.5 percent) from May 2012.

Honda and Toyota had record highest average transaction prices for the second straight month even as industry incentives fell in June. Honda and Toyota are asking on average 5 percent and 8 percent more this year than at the same time last year.

General Motors is down 3 percent and Ford is asking 2 percent less for its vehicles compared to last year.

"Despite the relative slowdown in the last two months, the auto industry continues to experience improved profitability with strong year-over-year sales, historically high transaction prices and precise incentives spending," said Jesse Toprak, Vice President of Market Intelligence for TrueCar.com.
