Honda Accord named top car in10 Best New Sedans Under $25,000

(July 13, 2013) IRVINE, Calif. — Shoppers in the market for an affordable new sedan can see which models the experts recommend most in the list of 10 Best Sedans Under $25,000 for 2013 from Kelley Blue Book kbb.com. While the marketplace of new sedans in the sub-$25,000 price point has never been stronger, that also leaves car shoppers with more questions about which model really is right for them.

In this new list on KBB.com, editors provide their insights and rank what they think are this year's 10 Best Sedans Under $25,000, ultimately naming the completely redesigned 2013 Honda Accord No. 1.

"While other mid-size cars have threatened its dominance, now we can definitively say that the Accord is back on top, with the completely overhauled 2013 model hitting No. 1 on our list of the 10 Best Sedans Under $25,000," said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com.

"The latest Honda Accord is as refined as any previous edition, but with a newfound sense of sporty style and cool new technologies that are as user-friendly as the car itself."

1. Honda Accord

Try to act surprised. Totally redesigned for 2013, the latest Honda Accord is refined as deeply as any before it, but with a newfound sense of sporty style and cool new technologies that are as user-friendly as the car itself. It never went very far, but the Accord is back on top.

2. Volkswagen Passat

The Passat topped this list last year, and the fact that it only slipped one spot in the face of so many new midsize sedans for 2013 is a testament to the fact that there's still nothing else like this roomy, fun and distinctly European sedan.

3. Mazda6

The midsize sedan segment has long been known for being about as sexy as socks with sandals — that is, until the high-styled 2014 Mazda6 arrived on the scene. Infused with Mazda's Skyactiv philosophy of marrying engaging driving dynamics with top-notch efficiency, the Mazda6 appeals to your sensible side as well as your soul.

4. Nissan Altima

A brisk take on sporty sedans, the 2013 Nissan Altima is all-new this year. In 4-cylinder form, the Altima offers both 182 willing horsepower and superb fuel economy. With prices starting at about $22,500 and an artful interior with easy-on-your-back seats designed with NASA, the Altima is one of the great new buys in the midsize sedan class.

5. Ford Fusion

Completely redesigned for 2013, the Ford Fusion mixes a stunning sense of style with impressive dynamics, and tosses in a roomy, well-appointed passenger compartment for good measure. With the choice of two EcoBoost engines plus hybrid and plug-in variants, this engaging midsize front-driver also can be packaged to perform.

6. Honda Civic

The highest-ranking compact sedan on this year's list was all-new for 2012 and then made even better for 2013, with richer exterior and interior styling plus an impressive set of standard equipment. If you don't need all the room of a midsize sedan, you can get just about everything else in the Honda Civic.

7. Volkswagen Jetta

Teutonically handsome, comfortably spacious and solidly built, the Volkswagen Jetta is a multifaceted player that offers a wide range of trim grades from a fairly Spartan S to a leather-lined SEL to the performance-keyed GLI. Included in its bounty of powertrain choices are naturally aspirated and turbocharged gas engines, VW's outstanding TDI turbodiesel and even a new gas/electric hybrid.

8. Toyota Camry

While it may not lead the category in technology, style, or even fuel economy, the Toyota Camry preserves the title belt for "America's best-selling car" by doing just about everything right. From its newfound emphasis on fun-to-drive to its enduring reputation for dependability and value, the Camry marches on as the country's go-to midsize sedan.

9. Buick Verano

If there's one big component that's often missing in small cars, it's a cushy ride. Enter the Verano, which feels like a breath of fresh air in this segment by concentrating Buick's inherent comfortable and quiet driving manners into a compact and stylish package.

10. Kia Optima

A new sense of style has taken shape among today's sedans, which can no longer compete on pragmatics alone. Among the best dressed is the Kia Optima, with its windswept shape and futuristic touches. Better still, the Optima's beauty goes far beneath its skin with attributes such as efficient engines and a laudable 10-year powertrain warranty.
