(October 19, 2022) MIAMI — The Miami International Auto Show opened last weekend and continues through Sunday (Oct. 23) at the Miami Beach Convention Center.  As shows go, the Miami event has been ranked below the big guys (Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Detroit) and pretty much ahead of the rest of the shows. It is considered a consumer-driven show with no high-pressure sales tactics but few dramatic reveals of new models.

Mecum takes on two cities in one weekend for $36.4 million in sales



(October 19, 2022) Mecum Auctions is well known for setting records and taking on never-before-achieved challenges, and the company took it to another level this past weekend by holding two auctions simultaneously in two different cities located a full 600 miles apart. One of the events, Mecum Chicago 2022, was held Oct. 13-15 in Schaumburg, Ill., and brought $15.2 million in total sales, while the other, Mecum Chattanooga 2022, was held Oct. 14-15 in Tennessee and reached overall sales totals of $21.2 million.

Toyota, Google Cloud partner to bring AI-powered speech to Toyota



(October 17, 2022) PLANO, Texas — Toyota and Google Cloud have announced an expanded partnership that brings together Toyota and Lexus next-generation audio multimedia systems and Google Cloud’s AI-based speech services. Customers can now experience the first results of the partnership in the latest generation Toyota Audio Multimedia and Lexus Interface infotainment systems, including in 2023 models like the Toyota Corolla family, Tundra and Sequoia and Lexus NX, RX and all-electric RZ.

Chip shortage causes automakers to lower 2023 production plans



(October 17, 2022) Automakers are expecting the microchip shortage to drag on into a third year and are already lowering their production plans for 2023, according to AutoForecast Solutions. “Chips are moving to the industry, just not enough to ensure production of even the most popular models,” said Sam Fiorani, AFS vice president of global vehicle forecasting, in an email to Automotive News.
