Subaru has best July in history with 55,703 sales

(August 4, 2017) CHERRY HILL, N.J. — Subaru of America has reported 55,703 vehicle sales for July, a 7 percent increase over July 2016, and the best July in the history of the company. The automaker also reported year-to-date sales of 360,513 vehicles, a 8.7 percent gain over the same period in 2016.

July marked the 41st consecutive month of 40,000+ vehicle sales for the company. Impreza and Outback sales were notably strong as each model achieved its best July ever. Forester sales for July increased 2.9 percent over the same month in 2016. BRZ also enjoyed strong gains over July 2016.

Toyota, Mazda to build $1.6 billion U.S. assembly plant in joint venture

(August 4, 2017) Toyota will build a $1.6 billion U.S. plant in a joint venture with smaller Japanese rival Mazda to assemble Toyota compact cars and Mazda crossovers. The factory, will have annual capacity of 300,000 units and create about 4,000 jobs, Toyota said Friday. A site for the new plant has not yet been named.

The joint venture is part of a wider agreement that calls for Toyota and Mazda to acquire stakes in one another, with details expected to be released in Tokyo later today. The companies will split the cost for the plant equally.

2018 Mazda3 to gain more standard equipment starting at $19,780

2018 Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback to start at $20,235

(August 4, 2017) FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — Hyundai says the European influenced 2018 Elantra GT provides a viable alternative to small CUVs for buyers desiring more fun-to-drive characteristics and greater utility at a starting price including destination charge of $20,235. The more powerful Elantra GT Sport with manual transmission has a starting price of $24,135.

Plymouth wore new design in 1953



Plymouth marked its 25th anniversary in 1953, the same year it introduced a new design for its mainstream car. Unfortunately, the only engine available with the new design was the company's 20-year-old flathead six-cylinder. It also soldiered on without an automatic transmission, the only mainstream car not to offer one that year. Even so, Plymouth turned in a record sales year. This used up 1953 Plymouth was discovered in Mayer, Ariz.

Blast from the past: 1985 Buick Wildcat Concept

(August 3, 2017) I remember walking into the local IGA supermarket when I was about 11 years old, and there on the magazine rack, was Car and Driver with the Buick Wildcat Concept on the cover.  I think I drooled, went weak in the knees, and started babbling something intelligible to my mother, who quickly revived me by buying the magazine.  I love my mom!
