Oh to be a rich kid in England

(October 5, 2015) This spring, Land Rover will introduce the production version of the pedal car it showed last month at Frankfurt. That car is a tribute to the historic full-size Defender model.

The show car has all of the highlights of the first production Land Rover, which was nicknamed “Huey” after its “HUE 166” license plate. That means cylindrical running bars, off-road tires, mud flaps and protective checker plate atop the front fenders and elsewhere.

Lexus RC Coupe to get new turbocharged 2.0-liter for 2016 model year

(October 4, 2015) The RC luxury sport coupe, introduced for the 2015 model year, returns for 2016 with new engine variants. The new RC 200t and RC 300 AWD join the RC 350 for what Lexus says is a more extensive luxury coupe line-up that offers drivers more horsepower options to fit their needs.

Honda recalling 143,000 late-model Civics and Fits for CVT problem

(October 3, 2015) TORRANCE, Calif. — Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 143,000 model-year 2014-2015 Civic and 2015 Fit vehicles in the United States to update the software that manages the continuously variable transmission (CVT), free of charge. Affected vehicles have CVT control software that is written to use high hydraulic pressure during certain CVT operation modes, which as a result may subject the drive pulley shaft to high stress.

Avro Vulcan united with its Aston Martin namesake

(October 3, 2015) GAYDON, England — As the last remaining airworthy Avro Vulcan prepares for its final flight later this month, the iconic 1950s British V bomber has been united with its modern namesake: the Aston Martin Vulcan.

Vulcan XH558 — currently being operated by the charitable trust Vulcan To The Sky — is due to retire from "active service" in October, going on to form the centerpiece of the educational Vulcan Aviation Academy & Heritage Centre at her home base,  Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster.

1955 Oldsmobile ready to rocket away



This 1955 Oldsmobile, resting in a Wisconsin field, looks ready for restoration. Oldsmobiles were completely restyled for the 1954 model year with new longer and lower body shells and wrap-around windshields and rear windows. The 1955 models were heavily face-lifted with new grillework, taillights and body-side chrome. Horsepower for the 324-cubic-inch Rocket V8 increased to 185 for 88s and 202 for Super 88s.

Kia continues Sorento marketing push with NBC Sunday Night Football

(October 2, 2015) IRVINE, Calif. — The long wait is over — football is back, and Kia Motors America (KMA) returns for its second season of “NBC Sunday Night Football” to extend the marketing campaign for the redesigned 2016 Sorento CUV, beginning Oct. 4.

After the Sorento made the “Perfect Getaway” during the Super Bowl, the new campaign takes a lighthearted approach to prove Kia’s largest CUV is capable of handling anything football families throw at it.

September proves an extraordinary sales month for automakers

(October 2, 2015) Detroit’s three automakers all reported double-digit September sales gains, as did most other major automakers. Even Volkswagen, mired in a scandal over cheating on emissions testing for 11 million vehicles, had a 0.6 percent sales gain.

Automakers in September sold more than 1.4 million new cars and trucks, a 15.8 percent increase from the same time a year ago. An already strong industry driven by truck and SUV sales was further helped by holiday deals during a rare September Labor Day; those numbers are usually counted in August’s sales totals.

ARK Performance builds 500-plus-hp Hyundai Genesis Coupe for SEMA

(October 2, 2015) FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — Leveraging its long-standing relationship with Hyundai Motor America, ARK Performance has released details on its race-inspired Solus Genesis Coupe, blending performance — measured at more than 500 horsepower — and luxury to take on vehicles like the BMW M4 and Lexus RC F.

The vehicle will be revealed at Hyundai’s SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) press conference in Las Vegas on Nov. 3.

Mitsubishi endows compact Lancer with styling changes, new features

(October 2, 2015) CYPRESS, Calif. — Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. has announced that the 2016 Lancer features a new design and a standard features list with a starting price of $17,595 in the compact sedan segment.

"The 2016 Lancer not only looks good with its updated styling, but it drives and performs at a level well beyond its value-oriented price point," said Mitsubishi North America executive vice president, Don Swearingen. "The new 2016 Lancer builds upon the legacy of challenging what a compact car can be in terms of design, technology and performance, all at an affordable price."

Ford's total sales increase 23 percent year-over-year

(October 1, 2015) DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford total U.S. sales increased 23 percent in September, with 221,599 vehicles sold. Retail sales also gained 23 percent, with sales of 168,522 vehicles — providing the company with its best September performance in 11 years. 

Retail sales increases were broad-based with passenger car sales up 15 percent, SUVs up 23 percent and trucks up 29 percent.
