Ford’s European sales up 7.7% in first five months of 2014

(June 20, 2014) COLOGNE, Germany — Ford said sales in Europe rose 7.7 percent in the first five months of this year — outpacing the industrywide recovery — thanks to strong demand for Ford’s newest vehicles. Ford sold 98,600 vehicles in its European 20 markets in May and 496,400 vehicles year to date, a year-over-year increase of 35,500 units or 7.7 percent. Ford’s market share through May equalled 7.9 percent, up 0.1 percentage points from a year ago.

Harley-Davidson working on its first electric motorcycle

(June 20, 2014) MILWAUKEE — Harley-Davidson has revealed Project LiveWire — the first Harley-Davidson electric motorcycle. In keeping with the company's customer-led product development approach, starting next week select consumers across the country will be able to ride and provide feedback on the bike, helping to shape the future of Harley-Davidson's first-ever electric motorcycle.

While not for sale, Project LiveWire is specifically designed for the purpose of getting insight into rider expectations of an electric Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Ford introduces new airbag design on 2015 Mustang

(June 20, 2014) DEARBORN, MICH. — A new airbag design debuting on the 2015 Ford Mustang raises the bar for passenger safety by providing inflatable restraint protection in a smaller, lighter package that also enables a roomier interior for more comfort.

The new airbag will be introduced later this year as part of a standard comprehensive safety system that includes a more robust package of sensors, safety belt anchor pretensioners, improved exterior lighting and double the total number of airbags on the all-new Mustang.

All-new 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco to deliver 32 mpg combined

(June 20, 2014) FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — Hyundai today announced the third powertrain available in the all-new 2015 Sonata. The Sonata Eco is expected to deliver a class-leading 32 mpg combined fuel economy rating starting at $23,275, excluding destination charge. It will go into production at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama plant later this summer.

Green Hornet Black Beauty car, complete with machine guns, up for sale

(June 19, 2014) The screen-used Black Beauty hero car used in the 2011 film The Green Hornet, will be auctioned next week by Massachusetts based, RR Auction. The 1965 Chrysler Imperial, built by Dennis McCarthy of Vehicle Effects in California, is one of just two hero cars remaining from the production.

The customized Chrysler Imperial features its original 413 engine, has 71,421 miles on the odometer, and is the only one built with its original headliner and black leather seats.

2015 Silverado 1500 can tow up to 12,000 pounds, based on SAE J2807

(June 19, 2014) DETROIT — Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will maintain a 12,000-pound maximum available trailer weight rating as it transitions to new ratings for 2015 based on SAE J2807 Recommended Practices. The Society of Automotive Engineers established towing standards a few years ago, and now all automakers have agreed to use the standards (labeled SAE J2807) making towing comparisons between manufacturers relevant for the first time.

Audi launches giant LED scoreboard in Brooklyn to celebrate soccer

(June 19, 2014) HERNDON, Va. — In celebration of soccer month, Audi has created a giant LED scoreboard using the headlights of 28 Audi A8 flagship sedans. The colossal installation — which sits on the shores of Greenpoint, Brooklyn — will bring the excitement of world-class soccer to NYC with a revolving digital scoreboard that projects the day’s soccer results.

This 1963 Ford Galaxie was discovered rusting away in the North Carolina weeds among other discarded equipment. The first generation of the Galaxie was produced from 1959 through 1964 with minor mechanical changes each year, but with noticeable styling updates. The '63 was arguably the best looking of the group. 1963 production for all Galaxie styles and engine sizes (V-6 and V-8) totaled 679,652. Horsepower ranged from 85 with the smallest V-6 to 425 with the largest V-8.
