Toyota to recall 8,000 model-year 2010 Tacoma pickups

(February 14, 2010) Toyota will recall about 8,000 model-year 2010 Tacoma pickup trucks in the United States due to a potential defect in front propeller shafts that may result in a loss of vehicle control.

In a document sent to U.S. dealers on Thursday and obtained by Reuters, Toyota said the all-wheel-drive version of the 2010 Tacoma trucks may have a component containing cracks in the joint portion of the propeller shaft due to an "improper manufacturing process control."

Saturn owners offered incentives by General Motors

(February 14, 2010) In an effort to keep Saturn owners in the GM family, General Motors is offering up to $2,000 in incentives toward the purchase of a vehicle from one of its four surviving U.S. brands, according to Automotive News.

The deal began Feb. 2 and runs through March 31 on certain 2009-10 Buick, GMC, Chevrolet and Cadillac models. The $2,000 comes in addition to any existing incentives.

Ford's January sales in Europe up 4.2 percent

100 percent reliability? GM says its engines and transmissions come darn close

(February 12, 2010) In January, 99.3 percent of the 1.8 million Chevrolet vehicles enrolled in OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics reported that there were no issues with the key components of their engine and transmission systems. The Chevrolet Malibu’s engine and transmission systems reported no issues in 99.7 percent of the vehicles checked by OnStar. These are aggregate numbers of vehicles showing “green” status in their OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics e-mail.

Honda recalls more 2001, 2002 vehicles for airbag problem

(February 10, 2010) Honda has again expanded a recall to replace driver's-side airbag inflators in an additional 378,758 U.S. vehicles from the 2001 and 2002 model years.

The inflators may deploy with too much pressure, rupturing a surrounding casing and sending metal fragments through the airbag cushion material to cause injury or death. Honda said in a statement that it is aware of 12 incidents related to the issue.

Toyota issues recall on some 2010 4-cylinder model Camrys

(February 10, 2010) Toyota issued another recall Tuesday. This one on certain early production 2010 model year Camry vehicles equipped with the 4-cylinder engine.

A power steering pressure hose in the engine compartment may be the incorrect length. If this condition exists, a crimp on the power steering pressure hose may come in contact with the No. 7 front brake tube.

Kelley Blue Book will lower used-car values on recalled Toyota vehicles

(February 10, 2010) Kelley Blue Book says it will lower the used-car values of recalled Toyota vehicles by 1.5 percent on Friday, Feb. 12.

It will be the second time in as many weeks that the company behind the used-vehicle price guidebook made downward adjustments to the vehicles in response to the growing supply of unsold Toyotas on dealer lots and at auctions. Toyota suspended sales of vehicles involved in its massive recall until those vehicles could be fixed.

More bad news — this time it's 2009-2010 Corolla electric power steering

(February 9, 2010) Automotive News reports that Toyota faces yet another possible federal investigation, this time of the electric power steering in 2009 and 2010 Corollas.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering a formal investigation of alleged defects reported in the compact car, agency spokeswoman Karen Aldana said Monday.

Toyota recalls 437,000 Prius and other hybrid vehicles worldwide

(February 9, 2010) Toyota says it is recalling about 437,000 Prius and other hybrid vehicles worldwide to fix brake problems -- the latest in a string of embarrassing safety lapses at the world's largest automaker.

"I don't see Toyota as an infallible company that never makes mistakes," President Akio Toyoda said at a press conference Tuesday in Tokyo. "We will face up to the facts and correct the problem, putting customers' safety and convenience first."
