(June 11, 2023) We tend to discount the Toyota Corolla when discussing compact cars even though the Corolla is historically the best selling vehicle in the world. At the top of our list are the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra with a nod to the Mazda3 and acknowledgement of the outgoing Volkswagen Golf. Perhaps it's time to get our mind wrapped around the Corolla and give it the attention it deserves in 2023 — particularly in hatchback configuration. This conclusion was reached after a week behind the wheel of a Corolla Hatchback in top XSE trim.

(December 25, 2022) If you have decided on the purchase of a new 2022 Toyota Highlander, but are torn between the standard gas-engine model or the hybrid edition — maybe because of the price difference? We have three numbers for you that may sway your decision — 35, 35 and 35.

2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary

PHOENIX — We’ve been saying it for years — the 4Runner is well past its freshness date and more than due for a complete redo. Still, over the years I’ve grown to soften my critique of the “ancient” 4Runner, that continues to set sales records, and in a quirky way I've learned to love it for what it is — simple, rugged, dependable and still highly sought after whether new or used.

(June 26, 2022) When we first drove the newest generation Toyota Sienna minivan about 14 months ago we were impressed by a number of things Toyota had done to improve styling and update the vehicle with scads of storage, a user-friendly interface, and a large helping of new technology. We also praised its extraordinary gas mileage. We recently drove another Sienna, a 2022 Platinum Hybrid, this spring on a 350-mile round trip to our favorite beach and we have elevated the Sienna's exceptional gas mileage to the top of our list for reasons to purchase.

2022 Toyota GR86

PHOENIX — If the Toyota GR86 looks somewhat familiar to you it might be because it was formerly known as the Scion FR-S, or the Toyota 86 after Toyota officially discontinued the Scion brand in 2016. Beginning in August of 2017 the 2017 Scion FR-S became a Toyota branded vehicle along with the iA and iM sedans.
