(February 11, 2024) The Ford Maverick small pickup was an instant success with its unveiling on June 8, 2021 — an affordable truck that offers all the truck-like qualities of mid-sized pickups, but with better gas mileage and a smaller more fuel efficient footprint that is considerably easier to park in any garage.

(January 28, 2024) Big SUVs have traditionally been powered by big V-8 engines. The all-new Toyota Sequoia bucks that trend setting a new course with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 hybrid. The powerful engine-electric motor combination pulls the three-ton body-on-frame truck with confidence making 437-total horsepower and a massive 538 pound-feet of torque.

(January 7, 2024) I have been a sedan lover for many years, and I continue to enjoy driving a four-door vehicle with a trunk attached even as I have been converted to a small crossover for my personal use. I discovered over the holidays that if I was going to purchase a new mid-sized sedan today it would probably be the new Honda Accord Hybrid.

(December 3, 2023) I had plans for the Thanksgiving holiday.  After watching The Parade, we’d drive sixty miles to my parents’ and enjoy some turkey.  We planned to catch the new Priscilla movie, do a little shopping, and drop off a box of books for donation downtown.  There would be no pulling RVs, tackling mountain trails, nor out-running exotic sports cars.  And yet, when I checked the schedule, my ride would do all of that and then some.  Yep, I’m chasing fat bird in a Ford F-150 Raptor…R.

(November 26, 2023) I’m going to do something I’ve never done before — give you the price tag right up front:  $107,390.  That’s for a regular length 2023 Lincoln Navigator with the Reserve package.  That’s pretty heady pricing against the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and Lexus LX, but is it worth it?  Let’s find out.

Jeep Grand Cherokee takes families the long way

(November 19, 2023) It’s getting that time of year when we gather our loved ones and hit the road to see more of our loved ones.  My family and I had that experience last weekend when we traveled four hours round-trip to visit my adopted in-laws.  It’s an easy drive with hours on the Interstate book-ended by narrow city streets.  A twisty-two lane to lunch and tight parking further tested the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude L’s skills as we took our ride the long way.

(November 12, 2023) Lexus took its own sweet time to introduce a proper electric vehicle.  While BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Genesis, and even Cadillac were introducing EVs, Lexus continued to focus on the range and efficiency of hybrids.  That may yet turn out to be smart as EVs struggle to find a foothold, but Lexus has finally seen fit to give us an EV.  The 2023 RZ 450e crossover is high on Lexus style, but a little short on range.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio — Attractive and competitive

(November 5, 2023) In the three plus years since last driving Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio a lot has changed in the Alfa Romeo showroom; admittedly, that’s important only if you can find an Alfa Romeo showroom — don’t look for one in smaller locales with other high-end imports. Of note is a recent J.D. Power survey, signaling a significant uptake in customer satisfaction for Alfa Romeo.

(October 29, 2023) I’m the kind of guy who likes a luxury car, but doesn’t feel the need to scream with a glitzy badge.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy vehicles like the Cadillac XT6 three-row crossover, but sometimes it’s nice to arrive elegantly without throwing down.  That’s where the 2024 Buick Enclave Avenir comes in.  Avenir is to Buick what Denali is to GMC:  Legit American luxury with none of the drama.
