(May 13, 2011) DETROIT — The Chevrolet Volt demonstration units are a popular showroom draw for dealers as they let consumers look, touch and drive the electric car with extended-range capabilities. It’s part of the plan to gain exposure for the vehicle and the Chevrolet brand.

Almost nine of 10 customers who traded in a vehicle as part of their purchase are new to the Chevrolet brand.

Chrysler to idle plants to conserve parts from Japan

(May 13, 2011) — Japanese automakers aren't the only manufacturers affected by the earthquake. Chrysler announced on Thursday it has canceled overtime in a Mexican plant and will move up the usual summer shutdown.

The actions were taken to preserve parts from suppliers in Japan that were affected by the March earthquake.

Truck drivers to give students first-hand safety lesson

Nissan reports better-than-expected profit following earthquake

(May 12, 2011) Nissan posted better-than-expected quarterly net profit after Japan's record earthquake halted factories and crimped domestic sales.

Net income was 30.8 billion yen ($380 million) for the three months ended March 31, compared with a loss of 11.6 billion yen a year earlier, beating analysts' estimates. Sales rose 10 percent to 2.35 trillion yen, the company said today.
