Manipulating fuel pump helps save gas in Chevrolet Cruze

(May 18, 2011) DETROIT — With gasoline topping $4 a gallon, there are many ways to conserve fuel and save money. The Chevrolet Cruze relies on microprocessors in the brain of the compact car’s fuel system to help.

The Electronic Returnless Fuel System on the Cruze increases fuel economy by 2 percent compared to vehicles with a standard fuel system, said Terry Wilton, General Motors’ senior manager for fuel system components.

Yamaha moving majority of ATV manufacturing to U.S.

Nissan shores up engine plant's foundation

(May 18, 2011) TOKYO  — Nissan plans to invest 3 billion yen ($37 million) to reinforce the foundation of its engine factory in Iwaki, Fukushima prefecture, after Japan's record earthquake in March disrupted output.

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said on Tuesday that the company has already started work on the foundation. The company plans to do the same at other factories including in Tochigi and Yokohama, north and west of Tokyo respectively, he said.

GM breaks ground for vehicle electrification plant

(May 17, 2011) WHITE MARSH, Md. — The General Motors electric motor plant near Baltimore will be the first by a major U.S. automaker dedicated to making the critical components for vehicle electrification when the plant opens in 2013.

Toyota returns to full production in Europe

Production of all-new 2012 Honda Civic to be slowed because of parts shortage

(May 17, 2011) TOKYO — Honda Motor Co. expressed optimism today that it will recover from the March 11 earthquake earlier than expected and return to normal production before the end of the year.

But a Honda official said the company has been forced to reduce production of its best-selling Civic compact car in the United States for the next few months just as the all-new 2012 models begin to reach dealer showrooms.

Ford to make $72 million investment in powertrain facility in India

(May 17, 2011) CHENNAI, India — Ford will invest US $72 million to expand its powertrain facility in Chennai to further support its sales and export growth plans in India.
 
When the expansion program is completed in mid-2012, the engine plant’s production capacity will increase from 250,000 to 330,000 units per year, an additional output of 80,000 diesel engines annually.
