Cadillac CTS-V named '2010 Car of Texas;' Ford wins four awards at Challenge

(May 6, 2010) FORT WORTH, Texas — The Cadillac CTS-V was named the 2010 Car of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association after topping the competition this week at the group’s Spring Challenge.The Challenge, which featured about 70 cars, was staged at the Texas Motor Speedway.

The event pitted the newest models in the U.S. market against each other in a series of test drives. About 40 auto writers participated in this year’s event and voted on their favorite cars in a variety of categories.

Advocacy Group files complaint over GM 'loan payback' ad

(May 5, 2010) NEW YORK — General Motors's controversial commercial featuring CEO Ed Whitacre has prompted advocacy group Competitive Enterprise Institute to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, charging GM with deceptive advertising, according to Advertising Age.

Ford extends its sales winning streak; industry sales up 20 percent over April 2009

(May 5, 2010) Nissan, Ford and Chrysler Group led the U.S. industry to a 20 percent sales gain in April as demand continued to recover from last year's collapse.

Overall sales rose to 982,302 from 819,692 a year earlier. The seasonally adjusted annual sales rate was 11.5 million, the second strongest of the year behind March's 11.7 million.

Nissan expects to book 25,000 U.S. orders for its Leaf electric car

(May 1, 2010) Nissan said on Thursday it is on track to book 25,000 U.S. orders for its Leaf electric vehicle by the end of the year and the automaker will be making money on the green car.

Nissan has taken 8,000 U.S. reservations for the hatchback, set to go on sale in the United States in December, since it started taking orders nine days ago, Mark Perry, Nissan's North America director of product planning and strategy, told Reuters on the sidelines of an industry conference.

Honda to recall 2004-2008 Acura TSX sedans for power steering problem

(May 1, 2010) Honda will recall 167,255  Acura TSX sedans sold in the U.S. market to address the risk that power steering fluid could leak and cause an under-the-hood fire.

The recall, covering 2004-2008 model year Acura TSX vehicles with 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engines, comes after one fire was reported due to leaking fluid.

Honda and U.S. safety regulators said that over time power steering hoses may crack and leak.

Chevrolet Camaro, other Chevrolet models to go on sale in South Korea

Boston approves Ford Transit Connect for taxi duty in city

(April 30, 2010) BOSTON — Saying the 2011 Ford Transit Connect Taxi "fits the bill," the city of Boston this week became the first municipality in America to approve the versatile cab for taxi use, paving the way for taxi owners to purchase the new vehicle for their fleets.

"We're very impressed with the Transit Connect," said Mark Cohen, director, Licensing Division, Boston Police Department. "It's the closest thing to a purpose-built vehicle for taxi use that I've seen in 25 years."

Toyota recalls 2003 Sequoia SUVs for 'aggressive' stability control system

(April 28, 2010) Toyota, which which recalled the Lexus GX 460 sport-utility vehicles this month because stability controls failed to engage fast enough, is recalling 2003 Sequoia SUVs to adjust a control system that drivers say is too aggressive.

General Motors to invest $890 million on new fuel-efficient engines

(April 28, 2010) General Motors will invest more than $890 million which will create or retain more than 1,600 jobs in five North American plants to produce a new generation of fuel efficient small block truck and car engines.  The investment consists of the following:

Two plants will support the engine production:

• Tonawanda, N.Y. — an investment of $400 million resulting in more than 710 jobs
• St. Catharines, Ontario — an investment of $235 million resulting in approximately 400 jobs
