Volvo Cars tests new wireless charging technology



(March 4, 2022) Volvo Cars is integrating and testing a new wireless charging technology in a live city environment together with selected partners, evaluating its potential for future electric cars. Over a three-year period, a small fleet of fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge cars will be used as taxis by Cabonline, the largest taxi operator in the Nordic region, and charged wirelessly at stations in Gothenburg, Sweden.

A Mercedes roadster in disrepair



Mercedes-Benz introduced the 230 SL roadster in 1963 with distinctive concave roofline that earned the nickname "pagoda top." Built from 1963 through 1971 on the W113 platform, it featured a low waistline, large curved greenhouse windows, detachable hardtop, and a new 2.3-liter six-cylinder inline engine. This surviver, perhaps undergoing restoration, was found in Black Creek, N.C.

Ram shares images previewing upcoming Ram 1500 BEV pickup

Hyundai accelerates EV strategy, targeting 7% of global EV market by 2030



(March 3, 2022) SEOUL — Hyundai has unveiled a strategic roadmap to accelerate its electrification ambition as it pursues sustainable progress for the company. The roadmap for Hyundai’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) is supported by strengthening BEV line-ups, optimizing manufacturing capacity, and securing hardware and software competitiveness. Under the plan, the company aims to boost annual global BEV sales to 1.87 million units and secure a 7 percent level of global market share by 2030

BMW investing $200 million to add press shop at South Carolina plant



(March 3, 2022) SPARTANBURG, SC  — BMW has announced that it will invest more than $200 million to construct a 219,000-square-foot press shop at its South Carolina plant. The investment includes more than 200 new jobs. The announcement was made by BMW Manufacturing President and CEO Dr. Robert Engelhorn at the South Carolina Automotive Summit in Greenville, S.C.

BMW debuts digital experience for new electric vehicles



(March 2, 2022) WOODCLIFF LAKE,  N.J.  — BMW of North America has debuted a unique, immersive augmented reality (AR) experience featuring its all-new, fully-electric BMW iX and BMW i4 vehicles created in collaboration with Google Cloud. The AR experience, powered by Google Cloud’s immersive AR technology, allows users to digitally place the BMW iX and BMW i4 into any real-world environment in vivid detail with usable virtual features such as changing paint colors, lighting elements and opening/closing doors.
