Ford Performance introduces all-electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 dragster

(April 23, 2020) DEARBORN, Mich. — It won’t hurt your ears and doesn’t use a drop of fuel, but it’s projected to crush the quarter-mile in the low-8-second range at more than 170 mph. For the first time ever, Ford Performance has introduced a one-off Mustang Cobra Jet factory drag racer with all-electric propulsion.


The battery-powered Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype is purpose-built and projected to deliver over 1,400 horsepower and over 1,100 foot-pounds. of instant torque to demonstrate the capabilities of an electric powertrain in one of the most demanding race environments.

Volkswagen Chattanooga to resume production May 3

(April 23, 2020) CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.  — Volkswagen Chattanooga has announced plans for employees to return to work May 3, following a six-week suspension of operations due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, in alignment with lifted restrictions from the State of Tennessee and Hamilton County.

To allow ample time for implementation of new health and safety procedures, Volkswagen will resume its Chattanooga operations in phases, gradually increasing production volume over the course of several weeks.

Hyundai creates 'How it Works' video for its NEXO fuel cell SUV

(April 23, 2020) FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Hyundai on Wednesday shared a “How It Works” video for its NEXO fuel cell SUV, available on the Hyundai YouTube channel and Hyundainews.com. The video explains how the NEXO fuel cell stack creates its propulsion energy on demand only as its driver needs it, in contrast to battery-electric vehicles.

A Chevy in the woods



This 1951 Chevrolet was found in the woods in Door County, Wis., apparently parked by its owner after its driving life was over. Chevrolet had a banner sales year in 1951 with 1,229,986 cars and trucks sold. Chevy outsold Ford by more than 200,000 units.

GM expands medical projects and charitable deliveries to hospitals

(April 22, 2020) DETROIT — With ventilators and face masks now in production, GM is expanding its manufacturing of personal protective equipment, including latex-free face shields, protective gowns and aerosol boxes. All of these supplies are being donated. These projects have been led by employee volunteers looking to apply their automotive-production skills — from 3D printing to sewing upholstery — to help those on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.


Hyundai unveils Veloster N with 8-speed dual clutch transmission

Volvo, Daimler Truck form joint venture for production of fuel cells

(April 21, 2020) Sharing the Green Deal vision of sustainable transport and a carbon neutral Europe by 2050, two leading companies in the commercial vehicle industry, Daimler Truck AG and the Volvo Group, have signed a preliminary non-binding agreement to establish a new joint venture. The intention is to develop, produce and commercialize fuel cell systems for heavy-duty vehicle applications and other use cases.

National gas price average more than $1 a gallon cheaper than year ago

(April 21, 2020) On the week, the national gas price average decreased by a nickel pushing the year-over-year savings to $1.03 a gallon. Today, 20 states have pump price averages that are $1 a gallon or more cheaper compared to last year, with another dozen states within a dime of reaching this mark, according to AAA's weekly gasoline report.
