OnStar becomes instant success in China

(June 24, 2010) SHANGHI — Only six months after being launched, General Motors’ OnStar has become the largest in-vehicle communications provider in China with more than 29,000 subscribers.

OnStar President Chris Preuss made the announcement Wednesday as part of the second “Drive to 2030” Sustainable Urban Mobility Forum at the SAIC-GM Pavilion at Expo 2010.

Ford investing $450 million in new Thailand plant

(June 24, 2010) BANGKOK, Thailand — Ford today announced it is investing $450 million in a new state-of-the-art passenger vehicle manufacturing plant in Rayong, Thailand, scheduled for completion in 2012.

Jeep banner draped over Chrysler building

(June 23, 2010) It’s no secret that executives at Chrysler are totally gung-ho on the brand new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 

They’re so pumped that they’ve draped a giant banner featuring the SUV on their headquarters building in Auburn Hills, Mich.  You’ll also see the company’s new slug line which reads:  “The things we make, make us.”

Kentucky names Corvette official state sports car

(June 23, 2010) BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Lots of states have official flowers and official birds. Texas has official footwear. Vermont has an official flavor. And several states have official muffins. Kentucky now has an official state sports car — the Chevrolet Corvette.

Governor Steve Beshear performed a ceremonial signing of House Bill 104 at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant on Tuesday. He signed the official bill on April 26.

Honda sets starting price of 2011 CR-Z at $19,950

Nissan, BMW, Audi win concept vehicle awards

(June 22, 2010) DETROIT — The Nissan Leaf was named Production Preview Vehicle of the Year and the Audi e-tron and the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics were named co-winners of the Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2010.

The winners were announced at the ninth annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards Monday during a ceremony at the Automotive Hall of Fame. The awards recognize those vehicles most likely to shape the future of the automobile industry.

A jury of more than two dozen North American automotive journalists selected the winners from19 Concept Vehicles and eight Production Preview Vehicles that made a North American debut during the 2010 Auto Show season.

Cadillac to offer free maintenance for four years or 50,000 miles

(June 21, 2010) DETROIT – Cadillac announced today it will provide owners of all 2011 models with frequently required maintenance services for the first four years or 50,000 miles as it seeks to build the best customer service experience in the luxury segment.

The program, called Cadillac Premium Care Maintenance, covers scheduled oil changes, tire rotations, replacement of engine and cabin air filters and a multi-point vehicle inspection. 

Ford E-Series vans efficient as commuter vehicles

(June 21, 2010) DEARBORN, Mich. — Thousands of Ford E-Series vans are achieving a whopping 150 passenger-miles per gallon each day as commuter vehicles for VPSI, a leader in developing and maintaining world-class vanpool programs.

A combination of Ford E-150, E-250 and E-350 models represent about 70 percent of VPSI’s 5,000-vehicle fleet and transport more than 40,000 people in the United States to and from work each day.

Most Leaf reservations are from non-Nissan owners

(June 21, 2010) Nissan has received more than 14,000 reservations for its Leaf electric sedan, about 90 percent of which are from owners of non-Nissan vehicles, said Brian Carolin, senior vice president for sales and marketing at Nissan North America Inc., told Automotive News.

Three manual-shift Volvo vehicles recalled

(June 21, 2010) Volvo is recalling 2010-2011 C30, and 2010 S40 and V50 vehicles equipped with 6-speed manual transmissions. The gearshift lever stud-assembly may not have been tightened to the correct specification during assembly.
