Edmunds CEO to Congress: Listen to consumers on fuel economy standards

California students observe distracted drivers

(October 20, 2011) SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Distracted driving is a bad habit and indications across California reveal that many drivers have room to improve. Last week, students monitoring 62 intersections near high schools across California observed more than 6,700 cases of distracted driving in merely one hour's time, an average of more than 100 instances of distracted driving.

Distractions during this learning-focused Allstate Roadwatch ranged from the ordinary — cellphone use as either texting or not using a hands-free device—to the extraordinary — kissing, writing and feeding children who were riding in the car.

2012 Honda Pilot wins '$37,000 SUV Shootout'

Teen drivers 50 percent more likely to crash in first month of unsupervised driving

(October 20, 2011) WASHINGTON — According to a new study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, teen drivers are approximately 50 percent more likely to crash in the first month of driving than they are after a full year of experience driving on their own, and are nearly twice as likely to crash as they are after two full years of experience. 

UAW ratifies labor agreement with Ford

(Oct. 19, 2011) DEARBORN, Mich. — The gall of some UAW workers at Ford thinking that it was back to the good old days when it was fashionable to hold up the auto companies for all they were worth was tempered by the majority who realized that they not only had a job, but a damn good one judging from the pay, bonuses and fringe benefits being offered by Ford and recommended to them by the UAW leadership.

Ford Motor Company confirmed that a new national labor agreement has been ratified by UAW-represented employees in the U.S. The agreement covers approximately 41,000 employees; members voted 63 percent in favor of the contract, 26,274 to 15,225 among production and skilled-trades workers. The contract is for four-years.

To save money consumers make big shift to small engines

(October 18, 2011) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Smaller engines are taking over the new car market, thanks to improved technology and a push for better fuel efficiency, reports Edmunds' AutoObserver.com.

According to Edmunds.com's data, the proportion of vehicles sold in the United States with 4-cylinder engines has climbed from 32 percent in 2007 to more than 45 percent so far this year.
