VW's 'The Force' named one of top 10 auto ads of past 25 years

(January 22, 2013) HERNDON, Va. — Volkswagen of America was honored by The One Club at the North American International Auto Show in recognition of three of its advertisements, including 2011’s “The Force,” being named within the “Top 10” list of the best automobile commercials from the past 25 years.

The One Club is the world's foremost non-profit organization devoted to elevating creative work in the industry.

One of advertising’s most prestigious international awards competitions, the 10 best auto commercials were determined from over 60 award-winning entries, which included past One Club winners, and juried by a panel of over 70 top advertising creatives and journalists.

“'The Force’s’ presence on such a prestigious list is a testament to Volkswagen’s uncompromising devotion to creativity,” said Tim Mahoney, chief product and marketing officer. “We are honored by this recognition and look forward to building on Volkswagen’s advertising legacy of creating human stories told simply in the years to come.”

“The Force”, which featured the 2012 Passat and mini Darth Vader, became a pop culture phenomenon overnight when it premiered online prior to the Big Game in 2011. Named the top advertisement of 2011 by Adweek, the ad has over 55 million views on YouTube.

“The Force” was created by Volkswagen's creative Agency of Record, Deutsch LA. Last month, Volkswagen announced that it will advertise during the Big Game for the fourth consecutive year, with Deutsch LA as their creative partner.

Along with “The Force,” two other Volkswagen ads made the top 10 list: “Milky Way,” created by Arnold Worldwide, and “Lamp Post,” created by BMP DDB United Kingdom.
